Was ist den mit #MinIO ?

I’m just realizing right now that I’m still relying on a piece of #minio tech, namely minio-client (also known as mc or mcli).

As of now, I didn’t find a credible alternative, particularly something suited specifically at #garage.

Might be the right time to write something in #rust to help myself and maybe others.

Using S3 for #Nix builds acts as a fast, shared binary cache, letting many machines (devs, CI) download pre-built packages instead of rebuilding them, saving massive time and resources, especially for complex builds; it's great for sharing artifacts across teams/hosts but requires careful management for signing/security, leading many to prefer dedicated services like Cachix for easier handling of ownership, trust, and signing.

@aku oh untuk mastodon ini pakai s3 saya sendiri, tapi bukan #minio, pakainya #seaweedfs.

Minio malas karena boros resource dan kalo mau nambahin skalabilitas ribet, harus bikin cluster storage baru. Dan lagi minio jg mulai bikin marah dan ditinggal kalangan #foss.

Kalo mau coba, selain seaweedfs, ada yang sederhana dan gampang om buat impelmentasi #s3, coba cek #garagehq.

Doing what's necessary: Migrating #minio to #versitygw.

I didn't use replication in minio, so versitygw is a much better match for my use case anyway.

versitygw is a s3 frontend to a posix filesystem and it's even okay with concurrent access through other means. So I could serve a filesystem over s3 and cifs at the same time.

I thought minio did the same with replication disabled but it's backing store is not usable directly so I have to rclone my data out of there.

I'm testing the waters having come from #k3s and #Longhorn and the difference is stark. Given the recent #minio shenanigans, I'm interested in Ceph's object storage support in addition to providing storage for my k8s cluster.

I just updated to the new #Minio version by accident and they really ripped *ALL* possible configuration options from the console. Also they went now basically closed source. They really went completely downhill in the last months.

Da sich ja #minio auf den bösen Pfad begeben hat, muss mal langsam was anderes her. Hatte mich dann für das Projekt #garage entschieden.

Die VM ist jetzt fertig installiert und das auch noch bei einem anderen Anbieter als sonst.

Erstes #restic Backup funktionierte einwandfrei. Die nächsten Tage noch alle meine Scripte anpassen usw.

Dann kommt die #evil_minio VM in den Müll.
