You want to use a #StaticSiteGenerator and need to support #multilingual sites? It’s now easier than ever! For quite a while, #Pelican had a great plugin for that use case. Now I helped migrate it to the new plugin format, which means that it can easily be installed from #PyPI. github.com/pelican-plugins/i18 #MultilingualDH #MinimalComputing

I keep my to-do list in ~/notes/todo.txt.
I write articles in nvi.
I deploy static sites with rsync.

Hey, anyone looking for a #website, either #personal or to house an #academic project? @RyanChartier builds and maintains #MinimalComputing sites that run on #Jekyll - they are #secure, #EnergyEfficient, and don't rely on #plugins owned by other corporations. Check out his site at blog.ryan-chartier.net/ - he built my website and then handed me the reins and I'm very happy to have full control over my official page.

Stayed up way too late last night working on editing up a Jekyll version of my website. Made longer because I'm still learning, so I was periodically calling @RyanChartier in to help me out, since he's the mastermind behind this XD

Coding is addictive, y'all.

Ich hatte heute den großen Spaß eine Keynote mit dem Titel "Do it yourself (but not alone) and KISS!" beim 6.

Check out the #BillyBudd exhibit @grolierclub in NYC Sept 9-Nov 12. This digital critical edition was built using #EditionCrafter, a tool we created in collaboration with Columbia University's Making & Knowing Group. Edition Crafter joins #RecogitoStudio in the growing suite of DH tools we support. dh.tools/grolierclub #DigitalHumanities #MinimalComputing

Lately, I’ve been experimenting with creating a very basic system for publishing #CulturalHeritage #Collections based on the #StaticSiteGenerator #Pelican. Think #Wax or #CollectionBuilder, but way less polished. It’s not a product, it’s an exercise in #MinimalComputing and a proof-of-concept. Since it now has a home on GitHub and basic documentation, I thought I could also share it for people to tinker with. #DigitalHumanities

at the #CrossingFonds symposium, Joey Takeda (SFU) just gave an interesting talk about long-term sustainability of the web-based results generated during #DigitalHumanities projects.

a key take-away is to make sure that all results are made accessible for any type of web server—and the key to make this practically happen is to make it "static from the start".

The Endings Project spells out some more useful principles and recommendations:

I attended a webinar on CinemaScience cinemascience.github.io/ , an app/environment for rendering large-scale 3D visualizations (i.e. ones too big to render on your workstation in real time). It's basically Wax for 3D: it pre-renders all the views (for different angles, values of parameters, etc.), so that a browser (or its python viewer) is powerful enough to render a view where you can rotate, push sliders to change your parameters, etc. Nifty! #MinimalComputing training.westdri.ca/tools/visu

I had an idea (that I guess is not necessarily new): Build a #MinimalComputing collection website like #wax but using a #LinkedArt #JSONLD file as a data source instead of a CSV. Has anyone built something like this yet? Any recommendations for a usable #RDF #StaticSiteGenerator?

about time i made an #Introduction post! my theory & practice of lib* work is focused on civic engagement & #OpenAccess, supporting new models of #DigitalPublishing & #ScholComm in #DigitalHumanities & across the disciplines.

i believe in the principles of #MinimalComputing and engage them in my personal work, as well as the digital projects that make up the majority of my departmental portfolio. #Accessibility, when built-in rather than bolted-on, creates better projects & outcomes for all. 1/2

My talk was on "(Re)Considering Digital Preservation 10 Years after Bamboo", the Mellon-funded #DigitalHumanities cyberinfrastructure planning project where I got my start. There's a lot to be happy about: the emergence of disciplinary repositories for the humanities like @hcommons.social CORE, the move towards #MinimalComputing, the tendency to think about DH projects as data that can be archived, not just pretty websites. (Yeah that's @miriamkp as a data superhero.) #DHNB2023

Fun fact: I wore that shirt while giving the talk!

I just did a system update. One line sprang into my eye: A wallpaper package pulling 70 Mb of data. My first linux system was carried home on around 45 1.44 MB floppies. Yes I'm that old. The distro was perfectly complete, , , , , and . I was just as productive as today, maybe more.
