What is going on in the Moray Firth?
Lots of vessels all in a line! They're mostly off-shore supply vessels

#MorayFirth #Scotland

edit to add 2 pics. Seems they're taking shelter ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Marine Traffic screenshot showing several vessels, in a light blue dot, just off the coast between Nairn and Findhorn. A few more vessels, like MSC Dragon, are further out in the firth.screenshot from windy.com showing large waves becoming smaller as they enter the Moray Firth between Nairn and Findhorn; going from a purpley-pink to a bluemarine traffic screenshot showing many ships taking shelter between Nairn and Forres as well as between Banff and Fraserburgh. THe Moray Firth is largely devoid of vessels in the wind farms.

Today, Nairn East Beach๐Ÿ’™ #walking #coastalwalking #nairn #nairneastbeach #morayfirth

Four photo collage: cold, bright, very windy, early winters day. Bright blue skies, some white cloud. Sand gusting in the wind. In all four photos, the sand seems almost pure white, both on the ground, and, as it blows towards the sea. Some green marram grass peeping through the sand. And, top right, a pale grey tree trunk blends into the white sand.

New open access preprint (based on some old work ๐Ÿ˜‘ ) looking at the "Stotfield Cherty Rock" (a Triassic silcrete/calcrete) which turns out to have been used in archaeological tool-making... It looks fabulous under 254nm UV light - so much going on in these rocks. ๐Ÿค“ ๐Ÿคฉ More here:

I'm very, very pleased to have taken this photo today, I haven't seen this young dolphin (ID#1332) up close for a while and was worried about his health. He has a deformation of the lower jaw and I wondered if he would thrive and hunt well for himself once he was weaned by his mum "Spirtle". I needn't have worried - he's a brilliant wee character, fit and full of fish. #dolphin #morayfirth #nature #wildlife

A young Bottlenose dolphin jumping out of the water, this 4 year old has a slight bottom jaw deformity, he's had it since he was very young, possibly hitting something in the water which has dislocated the bottom mandible. He's healthy and a good weight meaning he's hunting for himself very well.
