🇳🇱 Eindelijk weer met de #trein! Vanmorgen stond de trein van de #SJ klaar in het #station van #Narvik voor de rit over de spectaculaire #Ofotbanen (of #Malmbanan of Ertsspoorlijn) naar Zweden.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Finally back on the track(s)! This morning the SJ #train was ready at Narvik station for the ride on the spectacular Ofotbanen (or Malmbanan or Ore Railway) to Sweden.
🇩🇪 Endlich wieder im #Zug! Heute Morgen stand der SJ-Zug am #Bahnhof Narvik für die Fahrt mit der spektakulären Ofotbanen (oder Malmbanan/Erzbahn) nach Schweden bereit.
🇫🇷 Enfin de retour dans le train ! Ce matin, le train SJ était prêt à la gare de Narvik pour le trajet spectaculaire vers la Suède sur l'Ofotbanen (ou Malmbanan ou chemin de fer du minerai).
🇳🇴 Endelig tilbake på toget! I formiddag sto SJ-toget klart på Narvik stasjon for turen på den spektakulære Ofotbanen (eller Malmbanen) til Sverige.

#Narvik ligger egentlig fint til, men er kommunen konkurs? Offentlig infrastruktur er i et katastrofalt tilstand. Fortau, veier, skolebygg, idrettshall,...
De burde nok har en del inntekter gjennom havnen og malmbanen?
Eller var de blant kommunene som har gamblet bort penger som Vik?

Very interesting mix of people in the train bound for #narvik - many hikers, but also tourists from all over the world as a few locals.

Probably no Internet through most of the ride

An #SJ #Rc4 electric is hauling the consist on this photo taken in August 1985. With an #Interrail ticket in my pocket, I travelled by train from #Stockholm 🇸🇪 to #Narvik 🇳🇴, a ride of over 1,500 kilometres.
One can still do this today: the voyage currently lasts about 19 hours.

All train options from Northern #Norway back South suck big time.
Either another extra night in #Narvik or a huge detour via #Sundsvall.

I'm about to book a flight to #Bergen now.
Probably staying a couple of days there before heading to a place in the mountains which can be reached by public transport. #Geilo? ...?
#Balestrand maybe another idea, but if weather is bad, it's quite desolate.

Last two nights in #Oslo. So the trip from place X to Oslo shouldnt take more than a day ride.

Ideas for place X very welcome...

Amazing sunset today. I find these gifts to live for.

Looking from high up (666m) onto a fjord, sunrays light up spots on the water through grey clouds. Creating an almost lightning shaped pattern.

The sun still hiding behind a cloud lights up an orange streak over the fjord towards the camera while another part of the fjord is silver from the sunlight reflected of the sky/clouds.

We seen the orange sun below the clouds and still above the many mountains. The fjord in front dark blue grey, but silver further down where the clouds have parted.

Tag 20 von 42, Teil 2: Erzbahn, die Zweite 🚞

Mit dem Nachtzug geht es wieder auf die Erzbahn, also die Bahnstrecke Luleå–Narvik, die vornehmlich dem Transport von Eisenerz an den eisfreien Atlantikhafen dient. Ich fahre aber nur bis Kiruna, wo ich mich zwei Tage einquartiere.

Tag 17 von 42, Teil 2: Richtung Lofoten 🏝️

Ankunft in Narvik. Nach der Talfahrt an den Nordatlantik ist mir erstmal flau im Magen. Eine „Splizza“ (halb Pizza, halb Salat, geniale Erfindung!) schafft Abhilfe. Mit dem Bus geht es dann bei Schmuddelwetter auf die Lofoten.

I was on a night train from Stockholm to #Narvik (and back a week later).

This was the @diningcar I expected: https://rail.cc/blog/nighttrain-stockholm-narvik#gallery1-41 . And I got this, but only on the way back (no photo, because it was a bit crowded in the morning). On the first ride there was only a small bar with no dining seats.

When going to Narvik, the train stopped in Abisko, because the power cable snapped in the mountain pass, near Sweden-Norway border. We were taken back to Kiruna for a free hotel and we arrived on the next day. SJ (the train company) has a very good customer support. I had no problem with rebooking the ticket and applying for a compensation.
