Made it home with 55 minutes of delay đ 5 more minutes and we'd have gotten quite some money back this time.
We can't complain though. The little one had no tantrums and spirits were high.

Usually we take the airplane to Paris but this was a great trial. In the summer we might try the #nighttrain if the timetable works out đ€
Amsterdam-Frankfurt (Oder) went alright.

Trusty S3 and RE1 go me via #Erkner to Frankfurt (Oder) a couple hours early (originally booked as #RE92319).
Thursday night drama, now with a happy ending đ
At one point it looked like weâd be on buses all the way from Prague to Brussels, which was⊠not the plan. Then, against the odds, they fixed the train. Suddenly a platform was announced, the Night Train rolled in, and off we went, about 3.5 hours late but very much back on track.
Iâd already started plotting hotels and a daytime backup route, so this felt like a proper railway miracle.

The Nightjet train 468 from Salzburg to Brussels was delayed...actually didnt move much from Bavaria and went back to Munich where it stayed for 6 hours, calmest, but for sure slowest night train I was ever on. Now trying to find our way to Brussels combined with forecasted trains strikes in Belgium warrants a fullfiling adventure đ. #hackertrain #fosdem #fosdem2026 #deutschebahn #nighttrain

All set for the sleeper back to Brussels, but currently showing a 40-minute delay on the board. Honestly, not too bad for a cross-Europe night train, and itâs all part of the adventure.

Another #PKPIC announcement: The Adriatic Express is to return for summer holidays in 2026 too, this time running 6 days a week with through cars to Koper in addition to Rijeka, as well as a bus connection to Trieste with a change in Ljubljana in cooperation with an unspecified "local operator".

Arrived into Vienna Hbf after a night on the rails đ
About ten minutes late after a 15-hour journey across three countries, which feels like a small miracle. Vienna Hbf is a strikingly modern station and a great place to roll into after a sleeper. Bag safely stashed in a locker and the city is calling.
A few hours to explore Vienna before heading on to Budapest. This trip just keeps getting better.

Woke up to snow-covered fields and an orange sunrise outside the window âïžđ
Slept really well, the bed was genuinely comfortable, and showering on a moving train still feels slightly magical. Breakfast was far better than expected too. Rolling east while the world slowly wakes up is an excellent way to travel.
First sleeper train experience and I am completely sold.

Rolling east through the night đđ
On the Nightjet to Vienna and weâve just passed Cologne. Lights low, steady rhythm of the rails, and that brilliant feeling of waking up somewhere completely new tomorrow. First sleeper train and I am very much a fan already.
This is exactly why I love travelling this way.

Arrived right on time, dumped my bag, then headed out for a wander. Stumbled past the Porte de Hal, grabbed Lebanese food, and ate outside soaking up the early evening buzz. Exactly the kind of pause that makes rail travel so good.
Back to the station next. NightJet at 19:06 and my first proper sleeper train awaits. Very excited about this bit.

I've finally booked my tickets for #FOSDEM, after some delays due to decision paralysis.
Once again it will be bus Helsinki-Warsaw and #NightTrain Berlin-Bruxelles (#EuropeanSleeper), because I don't feel like spending 300 ⏠on Swedish trains this time. For some reason, Berlin-Warsaw doesn't run the whole way on February 5th, so I'll need to catch it in Frankfurt (Oder).
Apropos noise, I'm really curious to try a modern night train such as the new Nightjet once, as all the renovated carriages I've tried suffer from sound insulation in some form. Not much a matter of snoring as ear plugs work well for me for that, but either loud ventilation/AC, or track noise leaking through unsealed windows or the frame of the train. #NightTrain
Delay aside, my review of the Munich-Warsaw night train is mixed.
On the one hand the couchettes are well renovated with modern lights & better pillows than a Nightjet, so I didn't have to use my inflatable pillow.
However, the ventilation system had a very loud mode at times (even with ear plugs), the compartment door curtain let some light through & the train was loud at high speed (Linz-Vienna section). Be aware of the lack of breakfast so come prepared. #NightTrain #PociÄ gNocny
