« [Stephen] Miller’s grander aims are best understood as an effort to destroy the entire architecture of immigration and humanitarian resettlement put in place in the post–World War II era. […] Officials recently announced that they will accept only 7,500 refugees this fiscal year—a dramatic reduction from 125,000 […] It is now apparently US policy to favor whites in the doling out of refugee admissions. […] Miller is feverishly stamping out every single avenue for those fleeing horrific conditions to come here legally that he possibly can. […] He’s demanding 3,000 arrests per day, a pace of about one million people per year. […] We’re going to end up with a massively expanded immigrant carceral state at an enormous cost to all of us… » https://newrepublic.com/article/204191/stephen-miller-maga-terror-state-dark-plot

"The words used to describe Dan Stein vary depending on whom you ask.
For someone who agrees with his super-restrictive immigration policy ideas, Stein is a kind of prophet whose decades of advocacy as president of the right-wing Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) are finally bearing fruit in president Trump's second term.
For others, including the Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil rights nonprofit, Stein is closer to an extremist, spreading nativist ideas in a country freshly open to what were previously fringe ideas about mass deportations and eliminating birthright citizenship.
The one thing on which everyone can agree: Stein has been an undeniable influence on immigration policy in Washington D.C in the recent decade, and a go-to source for media looking for a reliable anti-immigrant perspective in roundtables and debates.
(. . .)
Pushing the idea that illegal immigration creates a burden on American taxpayers, makes the country less safe, depresses wages and undermines employment for native-born Americans, Stein has also claimed large numbers of immigrants are bad for the environment. And he's advocated for ideas that were once obscure, unpopular and on the periphery of policy debates, including ending birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to parents with temporary or no legal status.
It's an idea Trump has embraced. The president's efforts to end birthright citizenship is being challenged in the courts, but Stein is elated the debate has gone from far right fringe legal theory all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
(. . .)
FAIR's history of inflammatory comments landed it on a list of anti-immigrant hate groups by the Southern Poverty Law Center in 2008.
'FAIR works to kind of maintain this veneer of legitimacy,' says Caleb Kieffer, a senior research analyst with the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Like Trump, he says, Stein has long vilified immigrants and asylum seekers. 'But then when you really start to kind of peel back their decades-long history, what you find is ugliness, xenophobia, ties to white nationalists, ties to eugenics.'
FAIR's founder, ophthalmologist John Tanton, pushed for white nationalist policies, including encouraging only certain people with specific traits to reproduce — what is called 'passive eugenics.'"
Like many of the people reading this, my focus is currently on trying to process everything that's coming out of the regime's invasion of LA; particularly the alarming things the government is saying which imply they're preparing to respond violently to what I suspect are going to be big, but extremely tepid mainstream liberal protests on June 14th. But news still existed before Trump sent the National Guard into LA, and as always The Skinny was there. We've got stories about the Gestapo gone wild, American participation in a colonial massacre in Gaza, and of course a little bit about the early stages of Trump's war on blue cities. Buckle up, it only gets dumber and more terrifying from here.

The Skinny: A Whiter Shade of Fail
“This is a fascist regime, ruled by a reality TV show nazi with his own burgeoning cult of personality, actively looking to create an American one-party dictatorship by consolidating as much governing power and control over US security forces as possible, in the executive branch. Levine is more than correct to point out what other observers apparently will not; in addition to positioning himself as the embodiment of US military might, Trump is also courting the armed forces he needs to enforce a nazi police state conducting mass deportations under martial law, with lavish funding and the prestige of a fascist propaganda theater event that celebrates the troops, at the same time it celebrates Trump.”

There is something altogether insidious about the way purposely-cultivated, nativist coding in American attitudes about immigration policy work to obscure the ethno-nationalist reality of Trump's mass deportation efforts and broader white nationalist agenda. No matter how many times the Trump regime lets the mask slip and either openly admits or institutes policies that make it clear they also want to harm, expel, or otherwise remove *legal* immigrants who don't fit a particular political and racial archetype, the broader US discourse translates those objectives to "Trump is deporting dangerous, violent, criminal migrants who snuck across the border illegally." It doesn't matter how often ICE arrests a beloved small business owner who has been contributing positively to his community for decades, or DHS deports children who are American citizens in their fanatical quest to expel an undocumented parent, or how often the Trump regime's policies treat refugees, green card holders, and even foreign-born US citizens as "illegal" and "criminal." The overtly racist, authoritarian reality of our immigration policies washes away in a national mantra about "keeping us safe" from "violent criminal migrants" that represent an almost microscopic fraction of the very real people, often guilty of nothing more than a civil violation, these fascist programs and policies affect.
As I've documented repeatedly however, there is a clear and unmistakable ethno-nationalist or nativist pattern to way the Trump regime's overarching "immigration reform" agenda functions. Well, you can add preventing potentially millions of legal immigrants from working in America because they can't get a social security number, to the growing pile of evidence demonstrating the Trump regime's rhetoric about "criminals" and "illegals" is obfuscating an openly nativist political program.
Millions of legal immigrants’ lives upended after social security freeze
"The Enumeration Beyond Entry program is an agreement between the Social Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security, where US Citizenship and Immigration Services would provide social security with information from applicants for work authorization or naturalization.
The program began in 2017 under the first Trump administration.
Without any public notice, on 19 March, the program was halted, affecting millions of immigrants every year and burdening Social Security Administration offices, as those applicants will now have to visit a Social Security Administration office and apply separately to receive a social security number.
Following the freeze, the Trump administration issued a memo on 15 April aimed at preventing undocumented immigrants from receiving social security benefits, but provided no evidence of it being a problem."
So, stop me if you've heard this one before but a Trump regime policy they claim is necessary to stop "illegals" from stealing our social security benefits (that the ruling GOP party is trying to steal itself) actually has nothing in particular to do with preventing fraud and is just a giant "fuck you, go home" to legal immigrants in the United States. I guess they shoulda been South African nazis if they didn't want Stephen Miller and Downmarket Mussolini to harass them, am I right?
Now, you might be tempted to push back on my categorization of this as a nativist administrative maneuver if you take this malicious, but not particularly cancerous-looking policy shift at face value. After all, legal immigrants still *can* get a social security number, they just have to visit an office in person to so. Even setting aside the fact that this still gives the federal government an unwarranted degree over oversight over the lives of folks the US government has already said were fit to be admitted into the country however, this action must be placed in the context of a Trump administration and DOGE project that just slashed the SSA's staffing to the bone, closed a massive number of Social Security offices, and altered this policy without even making a formal announcement of how it would affect legal immigrants. I may not be an unfuckable billionaire ketamine addict who builds cars and rockets that burst into flames randomly, but I'm not dumb enough to believe the Trump administration doesn't *realize* what they're doing here; fucking with legal immigrants is the point, because this entire government doesn't believe anyone who isn't white, Christian, and pro-Trump actually belongs here.
Folks, the purpose of a system is what it actually does; and everything about the Trump regime's fascist immigration policies consistently does nativist bullshit. This isn't about "criminals" or keeping anyone "safe," it's bald-faced racialized nationalism and we must say so, no matter how ingrained pretending otherwise is in American culture.

One of the peculiar aspects of analyzing America's descent into overt fascism during the second Trump administration is the way frustration with liberal orthodoxy surrounding the effectiveness of "rules and norms" in curtailing governmental abuses of power, and the blatantly unlawful behavior the regime regularly engages in, have worked to tamp down criticism of all the awful things this administration does that are merely morally wrong, while still being entirely legal. Of course it is completely rational to ask why Trump's predecessors in government considered relying on tradition and "norms" to prevent abuses of executive branch power a viable plan in the first place, but that doesn't mean we can't or shouldn't criticize the regime for doing objectively fascist cracker bullshit to punish "enemies" of the white American Volk just because it's not strictly illegal. Take for example ICE's recent habit of occupying courtrooms with immigration agents, and coordinating with government lawyers to allow the detainment and expedited deportation of otherwise law-abiding migrants, effectively without due process.
https://theintercept.com/2025/05/21/ice-agents-courts-arrests-immigrants-deport/
ICE Agents Are Camped Outside Immigration Courts to Make Arrests
"Reports began circulating on social media on Tuesday that ICE had begun efforts to get cases dismissed that had been pending for less than two years so that the agency could immediately apprehend immigrants and force them into an expedited removal process — effectively side-stepping the typical immigration court process.
“They’re moving to end those cases so they can move forward with a more aggressive form of deportation without the requirement to see a judge or request asylum,” Mackler said. “They’re basically circumventing due process.”
Although it's not clearly explained in this article, what's going on here is that the Trump regime has revived a 2019 policy that allows them to fast track deportations for migrants who can't prove they've been in the United States for loner than two years. This has then been combined with an ICE guidance issued in January that allows agents to conduct operations near courthouses “discreetly,” and active complicity by government attorneys, to create a cruel but effective trap. Migrants, even potential asylum seekers, can show up in court for their immigration cases, watch the government dismiss the charges, and then be detained for expedited deportation by masked Gestapo goons lounging around in the courtroom hallways for that purpose. Or, they can choose to skip the hearing, which will allow for immediate ICE detention and an automatic deportation order. Either way, the Trump regime gets to deport migrants without anything even resembling due process. Furthermore, just in case you think I'm being uncharitable and this is all just an unhappy accident caused by the interaction of shortsighted policy decisions, recent reporting in The Guardian indicates that this police state bullshit is entirely intentional on the part of the US Government.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/may/22/ice-arrests-immigration-courts
Ice arrests at immigration courts across the US stirring panic: ‘It’s terrifying’
"Three US immigration officials told the Associated Press on the condition of anonymity that government attorneys were given the order to start dismissing cases when they showed up for work on Monday, and were aware that federal agents would then be able to arrest those individuals when they left the courtroom.
In the case of Serrano in Miami, the request for dismissal was delivered by a government attorney who spoke without identifying herself on the record, the Associated Press reported. She refused to provide her name to the AP and quickly exited the courtroom."
Unfortunately, as far as I know and as I alluded to at the top of this post, this "tactic" to help facilitate an obviously white nationalist mass deportation scheme is completely legal. In fact, as this very article notes the Biden regime was using a similar expedited deportation process to rapidly deport migrants who'd been in the United States for less than two weeks, so in a round about way this is yet another example of America's long embrace of foundationally racist, xenophobic, and nativist immigration policies paving the way for Trump, a would-be fascist dictator, to circumvent the law and US constitution to do white nationalist authoritarian repression. Of course Biden wasn't sending masked goon squads full of Proud Boys with an immigration badge to trap migrants actively *trying* to obey US immigration law, and therein lies the rub. Just because America's long embrace of fascism, white supremacy, and police state repression allows Trump to do something, doesn't mean we have to pretend that he should do that thing, or that it's perfectly fine when he does so. This is fascism, legal or otherwise.
