File under "we can't have nice things."

CoCreateGuid(), aka UuidCreate(), creates a unique value "with a high degree of certainty." It never returns the NULL GUID, and returns an error if it cannot create a UUID. This is guaranteed.

But this was not always so. If your software needs to run on any older version of Windows, it can happily return S_OK and a NULL GUID.

Microsoft does shit like this, just changes contracts and doesn't tell you when it happened. Or that it happened. #normalized
