#picocom

Been working on a small minicom/picocom clone in Rust for the past day, using some Rust packages allowing it to run crossplatform since I preferred that to PuTTY, managed to get it to work vaguely as a terminal, still needs work

Reviewers welcome :blobfoxlaughsweat:

@erikaheidi: All of them. 😎 More or less at least:

* I preferred #picocom over #minicom. And for quite a while I only use GNU #Screen for all my #serial connection needs. 😎

* I preferred #ircII over #bitchX. Later switched to #irssi.

* I used the #pon and #poff scripts instead of #pppd directly. Also used #wvdial occasionally

* I used #licq as #ICQ client.

And from those programs which I used in production, I'd say that either #xf86conf or icq is the one I haven't used for the longest time.

X-Modem-Kabel verwenden? Hätte gedacht, die USB-Dinger erkennen das automatisch.

@klaatu I haven't used #picocom, but when you say #minicom is the easiest way to talk to a serial port, I have a discovery to share.

Minicom is a full-featured way, you have full control over your DTR pins and whatnot, and I used it a lot back in the days of BBSes and nullmodems between computers, but it also can become a bit bewildering and require some configuration. Actually the simplest way is to use #screen!

Yes! Screen is actually not just a console multiplexer, they also figured "well we have all this terminal emulation stuff in here anyway, might as well throw in serial line support.".

I've been using screen until just five years ago and before that ever since, well, since those minicom days, and I never realized there was an overlap. I only learned about it like last year when reading a tmux vs screen comparison (tmux doesn't do serial).
