An asphalt driveway with an enclosed trash receptacle area made for commercial sized bins/dumpsters. Doors open to show piles of trash bags without a bin. This is what park privatization looks like. They receive a budget from the city to maintain the area which includes paying for trash bins. This park which remains locked with only the perimeter nature trail open has 3 baseball fields, a soccer field and a football field. The football field used to have two smaller baseball fields which the maintenance company didn’t maintain. The other day it was one small residential bobcat and 7 day laborers with tools watching and waiting. The city has a bulldozer and a certified operator on payroll for this kind of work.

Park privatization! The city is forcing the private maintenance company to rehabilitate the fields for the leagues (and taxpayer via city budget) paying fees, this is how they left the fence. I spotted this tractor later that day leaving a park with a baseball field attached to a local high school. Appeared to be going back to the city industrial yard. There are people arguing for privatization because they want to sell off the city’s equipment thus not pay insurance on the equipment and not have to pay more for a licensed operator city worker then sell off the property next to the train tacks as site for new “luxury apartments.” I rather have the yard and equipment. But most people who argue for privatization i learned don’t use these facilities any more and what do they care about people whose children aren’t grown—they got theirs and don’t care. Typical “boomers” think—we’re saving money on the budget—to hell with the next generations.

Update on the #privitization of #publicparks parents are now parking on the street in the bike lane right in front of no parking signs. This is how privatization “saves money”—not providing basic services like unlocking the gate for the leagues who pay fees.

Now the picnic side charges $3 without permit/placard.

The private side doesn’t open the bathrooms. If the event is big enough they charge for portable toilets. (If not careful OC may get a rep for being “ghetto.”)
#privitization is also another war on people with unstable housing. Lots of people live in their cars and use park facilities. Bathrooms and drinking fountains get “decommissioned”…small businesses should not be responsible for what taxes used to cover.

The scope of the cuts remains a mystery to the HHS employees & secretary Kennedy Jr, who said as much as 20% of the cuts may be mistakes, & moved to reinstate some staff fired in error. Kennedy said that “was always the plan”.
