The Carpentries Gratitude of the Month is to Aman Goel, Research Software Engineer at the The University of Manchester and Fellow at @SoftwareSaved. Aman is leading the organisation of a Training Community Day to follow the Research Software Engineering Conference #RSECon25 in September!

Featuring talks and interactive discussions on the skills and competencies needed by #ResearchSoftwareEngineers #RSE now and in the future, and how the community can collaborate to address those needs, the Training Community Day promises to be a highly relevant event for Carpentries community members. The Training Community Day takes place on Friday, 12th September, 08:00 - 15:30 UTC, online and in-person at the University of Warwick, UK.

Register for free before the end of 5th August: lu.ma/mm03rimf.

Question for other #researchers and #ResearchSoftwareEngineers - if you are submitting supplementary materials to a conference, such as a #github or @huggingface repo, how do you anonymize the repo so that the name of the repo or the repo owner does not violate the anonymity requirements?

Is there a way to do this?

Just discovered that Illumina has an NGS cancer diagnostics subsidiary, that is currently hiring fully remote positions and , with compensation listed!

Found out about the company from my mother-in-law, surprisingly (very non-technical person, really don't know how they know about it).

I learned this week that we use different terminology for the same things. That makes it much harder of course to find out if somebody else would be a collaborator.

My strategy for this is to actively listen to others in very different fields&lines of work than mine: #ResearchSoftwareEngineers, librarians, #NFDI & #FDM folks, infrastructure people, scientists from other fields, instructors, members of other communities.

It was mind-blowing to learn about so many different perspectives. 🙏4/n
