Waiting for a seminar on the world’s oldest runestone.
I updated all the runestone pages to use proper fonts for the inscription and transliteration on VarangianBiker.com and it looks so much better now.
I published a whole bunch of pages about varangian runestones I’ve visited on the Varangian Biker site. Each page includes photos, a trace of the inscription and a translation. A few of them also have descriptions. I have visited more of them, but I haven’t had time to create pages for them yet.

Queen Thrya was no ordinary Viking queen—she was a legend. Her name’s carved in more runestones than most Viking kings. As Denmark’s “strength,” she wielded influence that broke through a male-dominated society. While the warriors fought, Thrya quietly reshaped history. 👑⚔️ #Vikings #QueenThrya #LegendaryWomen #Runestones

I’ve just learned that several of the runestones in Sweden have English connections. This one that I photographed at Gamla Uppsala is inscribed with the words,
"Sigviðr, traveller to England, raised this stone in memory of Védjarfr, (his) father ... ... ..."

The #runestones in #Uppsala (there are more in Uppland in #Sweden than anywhere else in the world), mostly dating back to the 10th and 11th centuries, were erected as memorials for deceased relatives, a bit like the gravestones of today.
I spent the afternoon riding my motorcycle to visit two runestones. The stones stand right next to each other in the middle of the woods and are only accessible via a small path. I didn’t feel like taking my big motorcycle on it, so I had to walk 20 minutes to get to the stones.
The stones are Sö 34 and Sö 35.
After the runology day about Erik Brate on Thursday there was a walk looking at houses where he lived. It ended by the gravestone of the runologist Liljegren.
I’m at an all-day conference on the runologist Erik Brate.
I’ve signed up for an entire day of seminars about the Swedish runologist Erik Brate in May.
I sorted all the runestone pictures on my phone into a separate album for each stone. And a folder for each region. There are pictures for 100 runestones. I have pictures from more stones, but they are on an external harddrive.
Here’s my shelf with books on runestones, old norse, viking history and viking religion. It’s exactly 1 meter long, which is oddly satisfying. Is it time to stop buying new books now?
#Runestones, #trigonometry, and the #GreatAwk. Ole Worm (Olaus Wormius to his Latin-speaking friends) was a remarkable guy.
