The magnificently flamboyant Thirlestane Castle near Lauder in the Scottish Borders. It has origins nearby dating back to 1250, but on its current site the castle was built in three phases: in the years from 1590, 1670 and 1840. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/lau

Thirlestane Castle. The image shows a view across a garden to a highly decorative wing of a castle built of grey stone with pink stone details and facings. There are turrets and chimneys along the roof, plus a walkway with a balustrade. There is another range on the left of the image, rather lower and plainer in style. The sky is mainly blue.

It’s that time of year again

Stretching our legs to run past Hornshole and along the Teviot we passed a cottage that *always* works hard on their decorations. Ghost dogs and bicycles last year, pirates(ish) this.

Some artistic licence has been used - a dragon has sneaked in.

Two weeks to go but they do work hard.

And I forgot, 12k, road and tracks.

Ridiculously excited to get the latest Hawick Archaeological Society Transactions and find an illustrated article on the history of Wilton manses. My second Hawick childhood home is the latest Wilton manse - sold by us to them in 1991. My first Hawick childhood home was near an earlier Wilton manse. #Hawick #Scotland #ScottishBorders #ChurchOfScotland

Lunchtime run

We left as the mist was clearing, road and track with the trig point on the Mintos (reached by a climb from the saddle between the two hills). By the time we were back the sun was warm and I was overdressed. 13k and while tge descent was a little slow (it is steep), reasonably quick. Back to writing I suppose.

A gentle river winds through the lush greenery of the Scottish Borders, with rippling water reflecting the vivid blue sky scattered with streaks of cloud. Along the banks, meadows and trees create a peaceful countryside setting, perfect for #RiverLandscape walks and #NaturePhotography. Near Melrose, this scenic stretch of the River Tweed offers classic #CountrysideViews with a mix of woodland and open fields. Popular among visitors for its #ScenicRiver beauty, the area is a serene escape in the heart of southern Scotland.

A river flows through the countryside near Melrose, Scotland, bordered by grassy banks and clusters of trees on both sides. The water is calm with a few ripples and a gravel bar extends through the center. On the left, a fenced green field stretches alongside the river, while the right bank is lined with dense greenery. Further ahead, the river curves gently, disappearing into a backdrop of thick woodland. Above, the sky is bright blue with streaks of white clouds scattered across it, giving the scene a clear and open atmosphere.

Morning run

Lots to so today away from home, but the sky is lovely. 8.5k road before breakfast. Auld Reekie for us. Just as well the dug is expected as well as me.Actually, whisper it, but he is more popular.

Lunchtime run, Amy has not totally abandoned us. A mixed road and trail run of 9k left the dug braced into the wind (and it was loud) while I checked some kit on behalf of a neighbour.

Afternoon run

12k, road, very damp as Storm Amy embraced us.

No, no photos of the road in the horizontal rain, just the aftermath as the dug dries out. Looking a little sad - we came back too soon. On the positive side I left him here and not hanging up in the boot room with my clothes.

So the ground screws have arrived. Have I got this badly wrong or is it the best idea for the problem they are intended to solve? We shall find out soon enough! #DIY #ScottishBorders

Lunchtime run, Harestanes and the Waterloo Memorial

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterloo

The elusive Scottish summer slipped her bonds for a few hours - although by the time we finished her oafish brother was threatening to muscle in.

And we had a welcoming committee on our return.

6k, all trails, 3k flat, 3k stiff hill.

#DIY #ScottishBorders Longshot but does anyone know what this render on an external wall is, I’m assuming it’s a cement/sand mix. Damaged by rain escaping from a broken gutter, now fixed. I’m pondering Toupret Masonry Repair from ScrewFix to fix as alternative to sand/cement as it’s a waste of a bag of cement for this little fix.

External rendered wall with damage at bottom due to rain being allowed to soak the wall from a broken gutter above. Moisture rising up wall has caused flaking of the masonry paint.Close up of a damaged external wall render. Damaged by water from a broken gutter above.

The superb Commendator's House Museum, forming part of Melrose Abbey in the Scottish Borders. It lays claim to having the largest collection of medieval artefacts on display anywhere in Scotland. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/mel

The Commendator's House Museum. The image shows a large pink and honey-coloured stone building with grey slate roofs. It is two storeys in height apart from a three-storey tower on the right side of the end nearest us. The building is on a slope leading away from us down into a broad shallow valley and there are fields and trees visible on the far side. There’s a tree on the right side of the frame and the sky is blue.

Afternoon run.

When you are feeling down, getting out on a gorgeous afternoon soothes the soul. Road run, 7.4k, cut short as I walked the last k with a sore ankle. Seems to be fine now, but I will take it easy tommorow. Total of 21k today and I think it might be a bit less in the morning. I’ve made my target for the month and 5 days to go. The dug might need a little persuading, sbut ome frisbee and river action will make him forget
