day 1438 of #terror
Today in Labor History January 27, 1918: The Finnish Civil War began. The Whites (led by wealthy landowners) defeated the Reds (led by the Social Democrats), who were trying to create a Finnish Socialist Workers’ Republic. The war lasted three months. 3,500 Whites and 5,700 Reds died in the fighting. However, in the aftermath, the Whites executed another 10,000 Reds and 12,500 Reds died in prison.

Cold
The weather forecast is calling for an ass kicking snow storm tomorrow. Somewhere between one and 1.5 feet of snow. Yippee.
I’m trying to get things ready for the storm. I went grocery shopping last night so we have what we need for French Toast. (That’s a New England joke, FYI) A few minutes ago I took out the trash and the recycling, to make sure it won’t get too full at a time when it’s not easy to do.
We didn’t get any snow today, but we did see the temperature drop very low. It was three degrees Fahrenheit when I woke up this morning. By the time I finished my morning routine it was down to zero. It’s a smidge warmer than that now. I think it’s seven degrees. My point here is that when I stepped outside with my bag of trash it was so cold I started coughing. Yes, that’s right. It was so cold it was hard to breath.
I. Hate. Winter.
Not that it matters. The US government has declared open season on the citizens of the United States. A second American was slaughtered by government gestapo in Minnesota today. They are gunning us down.

Today in Labor History January 16, 2001: President Clinton gave former President Teddy Roosevelt a posthumous Medal of Honor for the war crimes he committed during the Spanish-American War. He was the only president to have earned the Medal of Honor. Roosevelt also won the Nobel Peace Prize, 1906, for his efforts to end the Russo-Japanese War. However, Roosevelt was no man of peace. Indeed, he had plenty of blood on his hands, like nearly every U.S. president before and after him. The Panama Canal project was acquired under his presidency, in part through “gunboat diplomacy” in support of separatist rebels fighting the Colombian government. Up to 30,000 workers died in the construction of the canal, though the majority of these occurred under the French, prior to the U.S. takeover of the project.

Today in Labor History January 16, 1991: The U.S. invaded Kuwait and Iraq. By the end of the First Gulf War, the U.S., under President George H.W. Bush, had killed over 1,000,000 Iraqis from the bombings and the effects of the five-year embargo they imposed. Then, ten years later, Al-Qaeda would attack the U.S., prompting Bush’s son, President George W. Bush, to launch the “War on Terror,” which was, in actuality, a war OF terror that would lead to the deaths of 4.6 million people and at least 38 million people displaced (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_on_terror). This places Bush the 2nd as seventh on the list of top ten most murderous men in history, just behind King Leopold II, of Belgium.
