The sovereign citizen who stole medical equipment from a Dunedin rescue helicopter appeared in court today via videolink. After sacking his lawyer, dipstick represented himself and started blathering SovCit nonsense. Judge Deidre Orchard muted him.
“This sovereign citizen route goes nowhere further than a brick wall in the court and you would be very wise. . . to abandon that course,” the judge said.

A Mataura Sovereign Citizen couple got sprung with a large cannabis grow, sacked their lawyer & tried the "we're invisible" SovCit argument.
"We don’t use or recognise nor consent to the use of titles as titles are only given to slaves. So who is Mr Woodrow and who is Ms Cope? See our unrebutted affidavits proving we are not Crown-owned slaves. We are living beings on the land..."
The judge granted a forfeiture order of $150,000 each. House gone.

A couple more kiwi "sovereign citizens" have had their day in court.
Bradley & Michelle O’Donnell from Raglan decided they didn't need building consent or other formalities when they added an extra room onto their house. The couple refused to meet with the Council unless they were paid. The only document they produced was a "Māori sovereign authority" signed by somebody called ‘Piripi’.
The court said "Nah" and fined them $20k.
SovCits never win.
New Zealand's first convicted saboteur, Graham Philip, was released from jail today after serving about two of his three year prison sentence.
A rabid anti-mandate numpty, Philip caused in excess of $1.2m of damage to electricity infrastructure. He has refused to engage with a psychologist, with the latter confirming that Philip has a “strong dislike and district of Government agencies and associated professionals”.

Stephen Lawton owns such a building in the main street of Dunedin and he's just found out. Five charges have cost him a grand total of $25,000.
Lawton has history. He was the Dunedin candidate for NZ Loyal, Liz Gunn's loopy conspiracy party. He received 540 votes to Rachel Brooking's 17,111.

A SovCit appearing in Nelson Court demanded to see the judge's law license. He politely declined. She refused to speak with her lawyer or sign a bail bond, so she's been held in custody. The bobblehead claimed she had been "tortured & denied food, water & medication".
She lost more brownie points for yelling "You're an idiot" to the judge and is now back in the pokey... thinking about things.

some time back I set up a Google Alert for '#sovcit' & I've never gotten rid of it. I mostly just archive, but increasingly when I read it it's a depressing litany of democrat-aligned people reveling in the triumph of cops & courts over sovcits.
& I'm always like 'yeah these sovcit assholes are frustrating & nuts & believe in the power of magickal legal incantations, but you are cheering on the literal cops & elected judges who'll happily put you in prison if Trump gets power & orders them to.'

Sovereign Citizen Richard Sivell conducted his own defense using tried & true SovCit nonsense which always fails in court.
Judge Harding very politely said, “I don’t mean to be offensive but it’s legal gobbledegook”.
Sivell was convicted of threatening to kill Jacinda Ardern, Ashley Bloomfield and others.
Sentencing January 7.

A man who told an online channel he’d be “quite happy to execute” then Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern - he’d make the gallows if needed - and who claimed he wanted to hear her “neck snap” has been convicted of threatening to kill.
![Richard Sivell was convicted of that charge, and related charges of obstruction, after a judge-alone trial at Tauranga District Court on Wednesday.
The court heard lurid threats from Sivell himself, in the form of audio comments made on a social media channel, aimed at Ardern - often referred to as “Jezebel” - and other senior politicians of the time.
Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield was a “[Bill] Gates clone”, Labour Minister Andrew Little “vile”, Chris Hipkins was “demon midget”.
“They needed to face a firing squad,” he said on one of the recordings, made in 2021.
Hanging was an option, too.
“We just need to make sure we build the gallows right ... I’ve got all sorts of tools and I’m quite happy to come down and construct some gallows, for free ... I’m quite happy to execute the m..... f...... for high treason,” he said.
“Just hope there’s a Bunnings or Mitre 10 that’ll give us some timber.”
Sivell also described via text in a different social media channel how “common law” or sheriffs would be able to “apprehend her [Ardern] and put her in a cell”.
“Judge her for high treason and crimes against humanity and execute the c....”
The comments were played during a somewhat unorthodox trial at which Sivell opted to defend himself, leaning on sovereign citizen concepts.

He also told Sivell the maximum penalty for threatening to kill is seven years imprisonment.
“It’s a serious charge.”
