Exploring spring through a different spectrum 🌿📷

On a recent trip to Klamath Falls, Oregon, I tested a 720nm infrared filter on my full-spectrum camera. This shot captures a weeping willow just leafing out beside an old barn. Thanks to the high chlorophyll content and strong afternoon light, the tree lit up beautifully in infrared. Post-processing brought the sky back to a familiar blue by channel-swapping red and blue, giving this dreamy, otherworldly result.

Infrared truly reveals a hidden side of nature — especially in spring.

On an early spring trip to the Klamath Falls Oregon area I was anxious to try out a new 720 nanometer filter on my full spectrum modified camera. This filter only allows the very red end of the visible part of the spectrum along with the near infrared portion of the spectrum to reach the camera’s filter. The resulting image is recorded by the camera, which is still trying to produce a normal color image, looking extremely red. By reversing the blue and red color channels in post production the red sky can be turned closer to blue which we’re used to seeing. Foliage, especially deciduous foliage in spring when it contains high levels of chlorophyll, dramatically reflects infrared energy making it really “pop” in this type of photography. This weeping willow near the old barn on this ranch was just leafing out for the spring and the mid afternoon sun was on the correct side of the tree to really light up those new leaves and the sky cooperated nicely with some interesting clouds as well.

It’s spring—when even shadows seem to stretch a little more leisurely. 🌤️🌱

影さえも、どこか気だるげに伸びている。 🌞🏯

A traditional Japanese house, its darkened timber siding and tiled roof softened by the season’s gentle sunlight. Corrugated plastic sheets hang slightly uneven, catching the warm glow. The faint green of a painted curb below hints at new growth, while utility wires stretch above like quiet lines in a springtime sketch.

Nice light in the hall earlier. #springLight #hyacinth #ordinaryBeauty #StopAndLook

A selection of objects standing on a cupboard. There’s a 1950s plastic duck clothes brush, a toy lioness (found object) a ceramic bowl containing various things like sunglasses and an address book. A green and white striped pot holds hyacinths. On the wall, a calendar a photo of the ‘B’ in the Brighton Pier sign and a crayon/colour pencil drawing of a room with a fish tank in it. The early spring sun is falling attractively on theses items.
