@yurnidiot
That's awesome! I have a book of #MagicEye images. Now I'll see if I can make my own text #stereograms

@niamhgarvey
I made crosseyed (right-left) #stereograms of four pieces from The Factory Art Exhibition at Djúpavík, #Iceland, 2019.
The first is from "Vanishing Points" by Rhona Taylor (Scotland).
The second is from "Chopin Was Not Here" by Anna Jóelsdóttir (Iceland).
The third is "SUN" by Raimonda Sereikaitė-Kiziria (Lithuania).
The fourth is "Ice. Frozen poetry I+II" and "Frozen Sea" by Katharina Lob (Germany).

Right-left (crosseyed) stereogram: View down a long hallway with concrete walls, floor and ceiling, lit by sunlight from small windows. A series of large transparents disks in a variety of colors extend down the right side of the hallway, suspended from the ceiling. From the exhibitionn notes: "Vanishing Points" is part of a body of work that began during the Icelandic fishing strike of 2017, when Rhona was on residency in Skagaströnd. The installation takes the navigational tracks of Icelandic fishing vessels as the starting point for a composition.Right-left (crosseyed) stereogram: View from below of an elongated tube with a bulge in the center made from many pieces of curved drafting film colored in a variety of pastel hues. The sculpture is hanging in a very old factory room with concrete walls and ceiling. From the exhibition notes: Working with large sheets of drafting film hand-painted with acrylic and ink, Jóelsdóttir's sculptural canvases reveal a world in which connections and fissures occur with the paradoxical logic of the viewer's intuition. The old factory space, touched only by time, becomes a frame in which past and present, aging and permanence, hard and soft, firm and flexible, light and darkness make new meaning.Right-left (crosseyed) stereogram: A very large circlular sculpture covered in gold foil streamers stands on a concrete floor next to a wooden staircase. Several of the streamers are gleaming very brightly. From the exhibition notes: The piece called SUN stands in between sculpture and installation and speaks to your unfaithfulness to yourself. By combining kinetic and monumental art, this work is grounded in the site-specific art movement and its ideas (SUN is specially created for The Factory). Simple at first sight, yet multidimensional and complicated, SUN is devoid of any logical solution and requires the audience to look deeper and engage with it actively.Right-left (crosseyed) stereogram: Three paintings hanging from the ceiling in a dark hallway. There is daylight shining through three small windows in the background, and there are squares of sunlight on the right two paintings from windows behind the photographer. The left painting is in the shadows. The middle painting has white seafloor in the foreground and hazy blue water with indistinct objects floating in the background. The right painting depicts a stylized triangular school of black fish in light blue water beneath a black sky. From the exhibition notes: Frozen poetry I+II are inspired by the poems of Matthías Johannessen, an Icelandic journalist and poet, that are about the changing of nature in autumn: Mountains turn grey, the heathland falls silent, the whispers of waves and stones turn into icy silence… The ice sails into my heart… not a teardrop remaining on its icy surface. Frozen sea refers to Djúpavík. A swarm of herrings are swimming underneath the frozen surface of the sea. With several treated acrylic glass panes, one behind the next, the work contains different perspectives: some parts become blurred, others come into focus. The position of light is another important parameter: frontal light changes the look of the artwork, and a positive-negative impression emerges.

What a treasure! I've been a fan of #stereoscopy since I got my first #ViewMaster in the late 1960s. I later bought a FujiFilm Finepix #3D #camera and have been having fun with it ever since. I think the #HolmesStereoscope like the one you've shown is still the best way to view 3D pictures. I made an #OpenSource #Windows app for manipulating digital stereo images and a paint.net template to make #stereograms.

@Staren 😄 Yeah sadly this isn't a stereo pair...but fortunately basically every photo of my cat are part of a whole photoshoot, so I went back and had a different enough angle to make a sorta stereo pair!

He looked up at me between photos, so the right ear has twitched and the paws don't line up exactly, but it works pretty well for an unplanned stereo pair, I think!

#catsofmastodon #stereopair #3d #stereograms (sorta)

Two photos side by side, both showing a brown tabby cat curled up, facing the camera, with their eyes closed and their nose tucked between their outstretched front paws. Their right hind leg and tail sits just in front of their nose, tucked under their paws. They very cute!

The cat is sitting on a bed with grey sheets, visible in the background is a dresser with the top drawer open, and a black water bottle.

The left photo is the same as in the top post in this thread, the right photo shows less of the dresser, indicating that the camera has moved to the left slightly.

I've been here for a while, so in lieu of an I'll tell you a bit about something I do purely for fun and enjoyment: I make free-view .

Simple stereograms are a a low-tech way of creating three-dimensional images from real life. You can take them with a regular camera and some post-processing, or with a stereoscopic lens.

Magic Aye is a bot that posts automatically generated autostereograms (aka "Magic Eye"). You can follow at:

➡️ @magic_aye

You can see the 3D images hidden in the pictures by making your eyes focus behind the image. (It can take a while to do this if you haven't done it before. Enlarging the image may help.)
