During today's #Bochum #sunset the actually not that big #sunspot (1)4114 was at times enlarged by atmospheric optics, just above the crane and right on the horizon.
I'm just going to die like this I guess.
No one cares about me. I'll just fade away.
They don't know I'm on life 7.
Sigh.

My phone camera isn't focusing very well, but you can just make out the #sunspot displayed on my #solar #projector #astronomy #astrophotography #sun
And the #Bochum #sunset show goes on ... today the #sunspot group (1)4087 was very prominent, and there was #AtmosphericalOptics galore: sometimes it stretched or duplicated the spot vertically while at other times a #GreenSegment 'lifted off' from the Sun's upper limb. My latest #model #construction #project . A #solar #projector but unfortunately the #sun is behind #trees, but I did see a #sunspot earlier #astronomy #astrophotography
The #sunspot group (1)4087 just above a cloud band during the Bochum #sunset today - followed by a pretty pronounced #GreenRim of the Sun, not seen in the days before. Full sequences of May 14, 15 and 16 in https://www.facebook.com/dan.fischer.393/posts/pfbid02uB1YqHYgbTf5bUsHDz1yZTFguPH2eW9ByzJd9c5PgMYSd7GdAMMMDcQBKbAv79V8l
The #sunspot group (1)4087 - the black dot above the trees - during today's #Bochum #sunset ... it was clearer than yesterday so even at the very shortest possible exposure, 1/16,000 sec at f/8 and ISO 100, the Sun was still significantly overexposed. Meanwhile the sunspot itself is taking a nap and produced only an M and a few C flares today but its magnetic structure allegedly keeps having a potential for more.
Yep, that - the dark splotch near the top of the setting Sun in the unobstructed area - is the #sunspot group (1)4087 ... which produced an X2.7 #flare today despite looking completely harmless in white light: https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1087060393447823 and https://x.com/JAtanackov/status/1922592737762968049 (pic as usual from #Bochum, Germany; minutes ago).
#WilsonEffect #Sunspot #StereoImage
Sunspots approaching the sun's limb appear to be sunken in the middle.
I made a stereo image from two frames taken from the video here 🔗https://www.spaceweather.com/archive.php?view=1&day=11&month=05&year=2025
The surface of the sun around the sunspot appears like a five-petal flower slightly risen above the surface, showing the Wilson effect.
The first image is to be looked at with crossed-eyes for the stereo effect to appear.
The second image requires red/cyan glasses.
With the big #sunspot gone from the disk little is happening ... so here's the #sunset with a #swift from yesterday. In https://www.facebook.com/dan.fischer.393/posts/pfbid0uDCAnPLqQ8J4pPmMhSoTCtzoH5ZLWtngukALSjrraiTdfgBCq76KFqhJMJsxyHYpl more pictures from the last three days, just for the record.
Helloooo, where’s everybody? #sunspot #seestars50
The #sunspot group AR (1)4079 right at the limb of the Sun during sunset on 10 May - there wasn't enough 'natural filtering', so even at 1/16,000 second at f/8 and ISO 100 the Sun was burned out, but the group is right there: full sequence (with earlier day time images and the Moon) in https://www.facebook.com/dan.fischer.393/posts/pfbid02tJDxMAUgBwBeXa8aV2Hhpjc4BTdwmQUm98DagqiviTygCCnDrdKH6qjivRW4y6Phl
Sunset with crane and #sunspot group (in Bochum, Germany, on 9 May 2025) - the AR (1)4079 can be seen near the solar limb in the '4:30' position: many more pictures, also of the group during the day on 7, 8 and 9 May, in https://www.facebook.com/dan.fischer.393/posts/pfbid0t9AEB6TLtSu29hFTbb3EGR3uW7EQCWqGavkbCxbbBvoTy9pedQheFozxbhXSgrQHl
The big #sunspot group AR (1)4079 on 6 May 2025 over Bochum, Germany: through eclipse glasses in the afternoon - and through three different horizontal gaps in clouds at sunset! The more detailled sequence https://www.facebook.com/dan.fischer.393/posts/pfbid028Ehr7KqoJQk5wbhzVEHWEXATMjjJiSsR8tvnUtS6LeKXsVsWMMZHvAWocy1gJZbMl also shows green rims at times and a modest sun pillar.

Cloud gap fun with the big #sunspot group AR (1)4079 - now near the central meridian - today (4 May 2025) in Bochum, Germany: through eclipse glasses in the late afternoon ... and during a super-bright sunset. Rain had cleared the atmosphere so much that in the clear segments even at sunset 1/16'000 second at f/8 and ISO 100 still delivered an overexposed picture! The double umbra is still visible, however, as were nice green effects earlier at the upper rim: more pictures in https://www.facebook.com/dan.fischer.393/posts/pfbid02R62RxXgjbwGuWpKRDRx4Yb8LrkycZ1P5KQJTchaB4ZZzaSa3LzzVVoptyjqvcrRal
