@gvogeler thx for raising this to the #TEIXML list and the @TEIConsortium âŠ
@gvogeler `trait` in fact has att.datable (a person is two-legged until Jaws comes along).
`event` does not have `trait`, for reasons I cannot infer from the #TEIXML Guidelines. But traits need a key/value (actually label/desc) scheme (./ab also works, granted).
A few markup samples attached. I favour the currently valid solution (last example event) for such use cases where the dating is uncontested.
@gvogeler following up on this: The other entity elements (person, place, org etc) do not allow a parentless `date` either. The only kind-of-exception is `birth` and `death`, which are syntactic sugar/special cases of `event`.
The takeaway is that having a `date` without a mandatory `@type` (or other means of specifying the relation between a `date` and its parent element) would result in ambiguities. To sum up, I think the current solution is not that bad. #TEIXML #eventmarkup
@type (master of events đ ) https://www.tei-c.org/release/doc/tei-p5-doc/en/html/ref-event.html deliberately does not allow nesting a <date>? #TEIXML #eventmarkup

@acka47 @planethistory @Mareike2405 @jorisvanzundert @caromein @eeditiones Der #LEAFWriter aus dem #LINCS Projekt oder die #INCEpTON Annotationsumgebung des @UKPLab können wohl auch LOD-Annotationen in #TEIXML Texte eintragen.
Selina Galka is presenting our paper on "Relation3: How to relate text describing relationships with structured encoding of the relationships?" at #teimec2023 - you can find the slides at https://zenodo.org/record/8320963 and the abstrat at https://teimec2023.uni-paderborn.de/contributions/117.html enjoy! #assertiveedition #memoires #TEIXML #tei #digitalscholarlyedition

I am still proud on this image I created about #teixml .
Now preparing a presentation about #teixml . First point: Why do we need it at all? :)
Delighted to see that another long-time friend and collaborator, @hcayless is part of a team receiving an #NEHgov Collaborative Research grant! The project director is Adam Mestyan and the project is "Digital Cairo: A Study of Urban Transformation, 1828â1914: Preparation of a digital database and interpretive website about the modernization of Cairo between 1828 and 1914."
I'm told there's Arabic #TEIXML involved.
