I wish #webbrowsers were like... you know... web browsers...
Not "virtual computers that also can render web pages as part of their UI layer"
I mean, I am not against the concept of this kinda software, it is great for making applications portable. Like, you know, the original idea behind the JavaVM was to do this.
(surprise! the java VM was not meant to be packaged in a linux powered docker container where the need for a JavaVM is near completely absent)
But this is like two different things.
Combining the two creates a situation like we have today. You need absurd amount of resources to be able to maintain a browser engine. It creates security risks, as you need something that can run desktop like apps, and also take care of your web surfing need.
#WebAssembly is a neat thing. But it has no relevance for regular web pages. Like most of our web is made to be.
Web browsers being what they are now pushes overcomplicated web pages to solve simple problems.
Because "is there, must use!" is a thing.
