Waterfall Glow

I've spent many hours at the bottom of Yosemite Falls watching as the water crashes down onto the rocks and boulders at the base of the falls.
This was the first time that I was able to see the rainbow at the very bottom of the lower falls. In the foreground you can see hints of green in the mist fading to yellow giving the appearance of a glow coming out of the mist.

Waterfall Glow

This is an image of the Lower Yosemite Falls base. Located of course in Yosemite Valley.
This is a closeup image of the falls, only focusing on the last 50-75 feet.
The fall is framed on both sides with dark gray/brown granite cliffs.
The water kicks out just a bit as it hits the bottom and that is where the focus of the image is.
You can see the affects of water hitting off the rocks and shooting up and to the side creating almost waves of water coming down.
At the bottom of the falls there is the beginning of a rainbow that is forming as the morning sun is rising in the sky.

Portrait of Yosemite Falls

One thing you will never see on a busy summer day in Yosemite Valley is the frozen beard that develops over night as the mist from the falls gets blown against the granite and freezes against the side of the cliffs that make up Yosemite Valley.
Another thing that you may never see in the summer is an empty hiking path to the base of Yosemite Falls.

Portrait Of Yosemite Falls

This is an image of Yosemite Falls captured on an early winter morning from the trailhead to the lower falls.
The trail up to the falls as few people travel to Yosemite during the winter compared to the summer.
There is some fresh snow on the ground from a light dusting overnight.
The towering falls are loosely framed with some towering Douglass Fir trees.
The falls sit prominently near the center of the image. The Upper Falls at 2425 feet drops to the hidden middle falls section and then comes back into the frame at the top of the Lower Falls. At the top of the falls you can see ice and snow that forms overnight during the colder hours.

Lower Yosemite Falls Through The Trees.

One of my favorite places to be is sitting below Yosemite Falls. The waterfall is so majestic and powerful and the water runs clean and cool.
This image captures the lower portion of the middle falls and the complete lower falls as shot from the path leading up to the bottom of the waterfall.

Lower Yosemite Falls Through The Trees

This is an image of Lower Yosemite Falls captured through the trees in Beautiful Yosemite Valley. The trees, mostly Douglass Fir lead your eyes up to the falls. The perspective is that the trees are shorter further into the image.
The waterfall drops down through the center of the image. The middle section of the falls ends near the top of the image and the final drop is in full view.

Straining To Fall

This last January, when the snows on the ground were light and the skies were the bluest blue, Upper Yosemite Falls was struggling.

Yosemite Falls Infrared

This is an image of Yosemite Falls captured from the floor of Yosemite Valley.
The foreground of the image is the dormant grass in the meadow.
Above the grass is a line of trees, mostly pine trees with a mix of Cedar and Douglass Fir.
Between the trees you can see the lower section of this magnificent waterfall. This section drops 320 feet from the middle section of the falls to the valley floor below.
Much of the middle section is made up of cascades that can't be seen from this vantage point.
The upper falls is the largest section dropping 1,430 feet from Yosemite's High Country.

Merced River and Yosemite Falls

Yosemite Falls is a majestic waterfall that cascades down the rugged cliffs of Yosemite Valley surrounded by towering pines and leafless trees hinting at a transition between seasons. The serene Merced River reflects the beauty of the landscape, offering a moment of tranquility in nature's embrace.

Merced River and Yosemite Falls

This is an image of Yosemite Falls and the Merced River taken from the swinging bridge in Yosemite Valley.
The foreground consist of the Merced River. The river is relatively tranquil as it is winter and the water from the falls is reduced due to the cold temperatures at higher elevation.
On the left bank of the river grows tall pine trees, mostly Douglas Firs. On the right side of the river the banks are lined with hardwood trees. These trees have lost their leaves for the winter.
At the base of the upper falls you can see an ice cone that has built up during the winter. The shear rock cliffs frame the falls.
The sky is full of big fluffy clouds with just a hint of blue sky just above the falls.

Yosemite Falls 3724

Majestic waterfalls cascade down a steep cliff face amidst a rugged mountainous landscape that is Yosemite Valley. Bare deciduous trees lit by a break in the clouds line the tranquil Merced River flowing in the foreground, reflective of the season. The clouds in the sky threaten rain or snow as they pass over Yosemite Point. Yosemite Falls 3724

Please follow the link provided to see the full image as that is how I am going to describe this scene.
The foreground of this image is the tranquil Merced River. Along the river banks are trees. On the left bank the trees are primarily pine trees. On the opposite side of the river, most of the trees are broad leaf trees. This was captured in the winter so the broad leaf trees were mostly bare.
Above the tree tops is the majestic Yosemite Falls. There is a pile of ice at the base of the upper falls. The waterfall is flowing but well below it's maximum flow. It is cold in the high country so snow melt is minimal.
The clouds above the falls are dark and threatening.

Yosemite Falls Duotone

Anyone that knows me or has followed my photography knows that I have a special place in my heart for Yosemite.
The centerpiece of the park is Yosemite Valley and the crown jewel of this centerpiece is Yosemite Falls. This image was captured from the swinging bridge during the late winter.

Yosemite Falls Duotone.

This is an image of Yosemite Falls captured from the Swinging Bridge over the Merced River.
The Merced River leads your eye through the lower third of the image. The river is bordered on the left with tall pine trees and on the right there is a mix of pine and hardwood trees.
Upper Yosemite Falls sits center of the image. This is the tallest waterfall in Nprth America. I have selectively reduced the color on the lower 2/3rds of the image.
Above Yosemite Falls is a clear blue sky.

Just got back from a trip to Yosemite. Everywhere you look is awe inspiring beauty. Apologies if my feed is a little Yosemite-centric for a while. Ha. #yosemite #mercedriver #yosemitefalls
A photo of the Merced River, surrounded by trees, cutting through the Yosemite Valley. A green raft with two paddlers is in the lower right. In the background Yosemite Falls flows from over 2000' above the valley floor. A clear blue sky is over head with one tiny cloud hovering above the falls.

Yosemite Falls In The Summer

My favorite place on the Planet, Yosemite National Park. I've been traveling to Yosemite at least once a year and sometimes 3 or 4. The one thing I hadn't done in a long time is go to Yosemite in the middle of the summer. After I took this trip I vowed that I would never go into the valley during the summer again. Yosemite Falls In The Summer

This is an image of Yosemite Falls captured in the middle of the summer. The winter that year was a good one. This allowed the waterfalls of Yosemite to flow strong.
In the foreground is the Merced River. On the right side of the river is a green rubber raft with a some rafters unjoying the sunshine. The river is bookcased by tall trees on both banks.
Lurking behind the river is the majestic Yosemite Falls. This waterfall is the tallest in North America at 2,425 feet tall. What can be seen in this image is the Upper Falls and the 1,430 foot drop from the top of the falls.
