@jperkin oh nice, thank you!
Also I've just read @geekdom will shut down end of May, that's some sad news :/
If anyone has a good Mastodon instance to migrate to I'm open for suggestions, otherwise I'll probably just move over to mastodon.social
I really need to setup a crossbuild environment for #pkgsrc ...
Building rust which is a dependency for ansible on the #VisionFive2 is now in its third day of building and I'd like it to be done by Friday ^^'

@danci Moin o/
@AnachronistJohn @bentsukun oh do you have a small guide at hand on how to do that exactly? I was thinking about buying some cheap UART to Ethernet devices and hooking them up to a switch π βπ»
@abs0 @bentsukun I have at the very least 4 here that do that π΅π₯΄
@bentsukun I will however say when it comes to USB wifi, a lot of modern wifi dongles register as mass storage (so that they can provide their own drivers on Windows) and you need a usb modeswitch function to activate the actual wifi chip.
Afaik NetBSD can't do that at all, which is why I'm always using this one USB dongle which is luckily very cheap but none other will work
@bentsukun true xD
Even though it's just nice to be able to connect to these boxes via wifi and not have to lug around an ethernet cable all the time.
Currently looking into options if it's possible to provide UART over Ethernet in some way since I don't have a monitor connected to any of these boxes π€
(I don't think I can setup a real serial terminal server like we have in our DCs for older POWER machines which would be awesome)
Evidence that the wifi dongle is actually working ^^
#NetBSD #pkgsrc #OpenSource #opensourcehardware #SBC #singleboardcomputer #riscv #riscvsbc #riscv64
Fun fact since #NetBSD always ports all of its modules with the architecture this means this box is currently the only #riscv machine I have that fully supports USB wifi dongles without having to bring in external patches on stone age #Linux kernels
However it's still noticeable that this is a development build ^^'
As much as I love source based package management like #pkgsrc on @netbsd ... this has been running for 10 hours and all I want is my weechat instance xD
Yeah the VisionFive 2 isn't exactly fast ^^'
Also USB works with the latest current image for riscv πͺπ»
#netbsd #bsd #OpenSource #opensourcehardware #riscv #riscvsbc #riscv64
Well I'm quite happy that it's running again, there's still no good Linux distribution that works on this box, even OpenSUSE tumbleweed wouldn't boot because their partition layout on the image seems to be corrupted for all available builds.
Suppose the "not yet supported" NetBSD it is then
Currently installing some software that I need from #pkgsrc source distribution since of course there is no binary release just yet π
#netbsd #opensource #build #technology #sbc #VisionFive2
So since the irradium #Crux #Linux derivate on my #VisionFive2 was broken (didn't boot anymore without any errors, just froze) and I never liked this distro anyway I was looking for alternatives... and for some reason the @netbsd generic "qemu" image... just booted and installed out of the box xD
