Hello to the #chemiVerse. Like many I'm experimenting with Mastodon (not that I'd been on Tw***er for long) so here is the #introduction post ...

I post one page visual summaries of UG organic #chemistry concepts (and occasionally more popular PG posts) under the www.makingmolecules.com banner (see attached). Although, I've never added it to Twitter, my name is Gareth and I'm an associate professor at a Massey University, 🇳🇿. Fun to see if this takes off.

A couple quick notes for new users of Mastodon (like me!). My understanding is that--

1). Text isn't searchable, but hashtags are. So, use hashtags if you want folks to find your stuff.

2). If you uppercase the first letters of words in hashtags, screen readers will read them (making them more accessible). If you keep it all lowercase, they won't. So, do this: #TacoMonster; not this: #tacomonster.

Hi all, a little #introduction from me 🤗

I'm a new Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Organic Chemistry and Chemical Biology at UCL Chemistry #London 🥳

My group develops methods to control nucleic acids (#DNA #RNA) and synthetic cells (#synbio) with stimuli, like light, temperature and magnetism - we use all sorts of chemistries like #photocages, #polymers, and #nanoparticles

I will also toot about parenting, #coeliac disease, and things I find funny!

Hi

I might come to regret this, but I've seen some journalists compiling lists of people on here & I thought it might be useful in the early days here to do something similar for the chemistry community (& those who interact with the chemistry community – you can define that quite liberally).

So, here is a Google Form that you can fill in if you wish: forms.gle/gF9MLUGMWs23EFix6

And it feeds into this Google Sheet: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d

(The form does not collect e-mail addresses)

Time for that #introduction:

I'm Neil, I'm the features #editor on #ChemistryWorld and I commission, edit and publish the long articles, normally about one a week.

Here's this week's, on the #hormones behind what makes you #hangry

Maybe I'll move the #tractors account over later...
