“It was a day peculiar to this piece of the planet,
when larks rose on long thin strings of singing
and the air shifted with the shimmer of actual angels.
Greenness entered the body. The grasses
 shivered with presences, and sunlight
stayed like a halo on hair and heather and hills.”

From ‘Scotland’ by Alistair Reid

I have quoted this poem before and although my photograph isn’t a literal illustration, its greenness and azure purity does strike that note. Although the Cuillins can be seen in the distance the image is essentially grass and sky.

Morning!

I moan about the watering, but I love this time at the before work.

What are these types of damage please? These were healthy plants when I brought them home 2 wks ago and potted them in fresh potting soil with a little organic fertilizer.

I have just read that home.social is shutting down tomorrow. I may disappear until I find an alternative. Any suggestions for an allotment grower interests include climate and environment, art, politics, photography, equality. I am passionate about biodiversity.

@Sofaflyer I've discovered that at these temperatures, I can only stay on the plot until 10.15. Which isn't really a problem as I'm an early riser. Mr M is away and I have 90 potato plants to water for him. Fingers crossed for rain and cooler temperatures next week.

@wormerama Your welcome.

It's been a pretty aweful week news wise, and the start of the Covid enquiry must be bringing a lot of pain to many people. I hope everyone can find a friend to talk to and comfort in doing your favourite pastime.

Went to the #allotment yesterday evening with my parents after leaving it in their hands for a week while I’ve been away. It’s a shame we’ve gone from a cold spring straight into hot weather in the UK but my plants seem to be coping regardless. My first year trying brassicas and it’s the worst weather for it.

Frogs keep appearing near / in my greenhouse, a reminder that I still need to build a pond! Also harvested a huge amount of salad leaves that have grown massive while away.

My teeny tiny Scottish primroses, grown from seed, have flowered!
The 5 pence piece is for scale.
I didn’t grow that from seed.

I love our geums although they don't seem to live very long in our rock and roll, everyone in together kind of garden.

There is only room for one diva in the garden and it is usually holding the hosepipe early in the morning and singing or humming something suitable by Erasure or Kylie. 😁

This lovely one is called Totally Tangerine and the flying things absolutely love it.

It also is great at telling me when it needs watering. Totally limp = lots of watering needed. Easy. 😄

Geum Totally Tangerine has single golden orange flowers held aloft on deep green wiry stems.

@BroadforkForVictory That looks like an oriental poppy Perry's White. Lovely crumpled petals and the bees love them.
