Quick question for anyone whose worked with artists/illustrators out there. How do you usually structure payments & your contracts when working with artists?

I'm thinking of collaborating with an artist who will illustrate several pieces from my current manuscript in progress, but am not sure how the pay works for these relationships (ie. royalties, by inch, by hour, etc)

Thanks in advance!

Of course I'd get knocked on my ass by a mystery bug in the first days of my fall break. Stomach cramps, nausea, loss of appetite, joint pain & headaches...at least it's not COVID?! ๐Ÿ™ƒ

The good news is being bed-bound has given me the [forced] opportunity to work on my manuscript-in-progress / dissertation, and I'm finishing a short story based on Levi-Strauss's shamanistic complex---how belief in magic makes it real. Who said structural anthropology and spooky fiction don't mix?

Friends, in February I'll be teaching a 4-week online course on writing memory in verse with #WritingWorkshopsDallas

I would LOVE to see you there, and look forward to lively conversations about the unique ways memories can be explored and disentangled through poetry. We'll also write our own memories as poems each week based on generative prompts!

Feel free to DM me with questions. The link is below:

I haven't done an #introduction post! I am a poet and a dad and a husband. I have had poetry published in some great journals like Guernica and Fairy Tale Review and Sixth Finch and a bunch more. I'm probably too active over on Twitter, where you have might seen me getting destroyed for how I cook quesadillas or am not a fan of hiking. Hi y'all!

I'm SO excited to officially have a cover image for my forthcoming collection of ghost interviews and confessions, *Santa Muerte Santa Muerte: I Was Here Release Me* ---which releases from Tram Editions in February of 2023.

And to make good news even better, one of my favorite artists is working on an image for the cover of my almost-finished manuscript-in-progress, which should be ready to circulate to potential publishers in the next few months. Can I share either yet? Sadly, no... But soon. Soon. ๐Ÿ‘ป

Sharing one of my favorite poems since childhood.

By the 12thc warrior poet Xin Qiji ่พ›ๆฃ„็–พ, who was sidelined during peacetime, demoted, drifting through a decade of minor posts in remote lands.

Poetry, then, is that which is left unsaid.

@paezha

Hi Antonio,

Some of these also publish fiction, but about half are poetry only. I'll post a list of journals that are open to literary fiction soon, and also list of journals that are open to speculative fiction (since they're very different markets). Keep an eye out for those, and best of luck on your publishing journey!!
