As the Lords start debating the Palestine Action proscription, Peter Hain notes that under this sort of suppression of protest, groups from the anti-apartheid campaigners to the Suffragettes would all have been suppressed.
Its a sad day for democracy when we are now hoping that an unelected second chamber will save us from the machinations of our representatives, all of whom bar 26 voted against democracy!

I try to be optimistic, but sometimes I encounter facts
“IT’S FUCKING CHESS
What POSSIBLE advantage, even in the warped mind of a transphobe, could being #transgender give you at chess? They’re so nakedly hateful they just can’t stand any #trans person winning anything ever. Pathetic.”
Hey @dansup, someone from the TRMNL community @stephenyeargin created this @pixelfed plugin.
It's black and white, but it's still a feed.

Not quite solarpunk but people might want to know.
So chickpeas can be heat sensitive but I thought I’d try out an heirloom from southern Italy. Well, the heatwave we are having here (temps up to 100F/37.8C) is killing them.
It takes 90-120 days for these beans to mature so spring planting won’t work and the beans are frost sensitive. Guess this heirloom will be a global warming casualty.
Sometimes, I receive questions which leave both me, and the person asking, bamboozled.
> Your website loads so quickly! What CDN do you use?
There is no CDN. It is just really small and simple, mostly text.
> Sure, but is that Cloudflare, or...?
None. It is a tiny website, just a few kilobytes per page, on a tiny server, at my home, connected to the Internet via my ISP, Andrews & Arnold.
> But are you / they in the cloud?
No. The webserver is in Newbury, in my garage.
> Neil, please can you pass my questions to your technical person? I don't think you understand, your website cannot be in your home. It must be in the cloud or have a CDN.

Prior to getting my Masters and PhD in Nuclear Engineering at Berkeley I was a nuclear trained officer on a submarine. After graduating I worked in reactor core design at a nuclear company. I now work as a nuclear physicist at a national lab.
I just wanted to establish my bona fides before assuring you that yes, your assumption is correct that bombing any kind of nuclear infrastructure is dangerous and reckless as fuck.
ICYMI: In September 2024, The Carpentries submitted a proposal for 1.5 million USD to the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Pathways to Enable Open-Source Ecosystems (POSE) Program, and were extremely pleased to learn that the proposal was recommended for funding.
However, we have had to rescind our proposal because it was flagged for DEI content, namely, for “the retention of underrepresented students, which has a limitation or preference in outreach, recruitment, participation that is not aligned to NSF priorities.”
Since we are no longer in the running for this funding, we are actively seeking donors and a cohort of funders who align with our mission and core values and want to support our work.
Find out in this blog post announcement how you can help us by making a recurring donation, or reaching out to potential donors on our behalf, or connecting us with potential donors and program officers, or collaborating with us to apply for grants, and many other ways you can support our mission: https://carpentries.org/blog/2025/06/announcing-withdrawal-of-nsf-pose-proposal/
Apparently #FairPhone 6 will have USB 2 OTG instead of USB 3.
Which means no desktop mode on external monitor.
At least by default. I am interested to see, what kind of hacks will community come up with to get it working.

As someone who creates and manages my tasks in #Obsidian using the Tasks plugin, the app #SuperProductivity that I learned about yesterday really piqued my interest since it not only seems really awesome for task management etc in and of itself (plus it's #FOSS!), but there are rumors that there might be some sort of Obsidian connectivity/compatibility coming in the future. 👀
I am drooling over this possibility.
This morning, Palestine Action targeted the London office of investment firm Invesco, which hold shares worth over $130 million in Israel's biggest weapons producer.
@smellsofbikes oh wow, that's awesome
@smellsofbikes what scope/software is that?

I was born in an Iranian prison. My parents were held in their jails. My uncles lie in their mass graves.
Nothing you can tell me about the crimes of the Iranian regime that I haven't lived in blood and bone.
That doesn't mean I want my people bombed, maimed, killed, their homes in ruins.
If your vision of liberation comes only through the destruction of innocent lives, then it's not freedom you're after.
I know this is a long shot, but nothing ventured, nothing gained and maybe the fediverse can help.
🇬🇧My oldest son (19) is moving to Eindhoven to study design at the Design Academy Eindhoven. He's looking for a room to rent, which is proving very difficult. Is there anyone in the fediverse who can help him with a room either in Eindhoven or nearby? He doesn't mind commuting.

Apparently this is slightly old news (the Git commit timestamp is just over three months ago), but KWin, the KDE window manager/compositor, now implements the solution pioneered by GNOME for letting screen readers monitor and intercept keystrokes on Wayland, specifically, the org.freedesktop.a11y.KeyboardMonitor D-Bus interface. I prototyped this solution in GNOME last summer. Thanks to @tyrylu for bringing it to production in GNOME, and now to Nicolas Fella for implementing it in KDE.
