Not my photos (no camera, alas), but I will always credit.

Avatar is a floofy, borby, frowny birb. Header is a line of autumn leaves ranging (L to R) from green to brilliant red.

I also requested an archive. Preferences ==> Import/Export ==> Request Archive. I did it solely for the media. Once it compiles, sends you a link to your email, and you open the zipped file, you will go through endless file folder trees, but the one marked "original" will have your media. I moved those files into a separate folder, then deleted anything that was pointless to keep. But I got a whole lot of my bird photos back. You'll have to rename your media files.

@anotherwest @chenx064 @AnneCamozzi

Oh... and you can request an archive of your content. I don't know how it works with links, but I just got my archive, and it preserved the media itself. I'm glad to see a lot of those photos I posted early on.

Thank you! 😁 😊

@chenx064 @AnneCamozzi

I believe so. Since a great deal of my content is photographs that I've saved on my computer anyway, I'll boost from Birds.Town, or I'll repost. Sorta hate to lose all those likes and boosts, though.

I'm told NOT to delete your old account, though. That would completely break the chain between you and those people who liked/boosted your content, but I don't know for sure.

BTW, how much you can say in your profile seems directly related to characters allowed in posts.

@AnneCamozzi @chenx064

I know that when you go to Preferences => Account => Move to different account, there are instructions.

I moved piecemeal and refollowed you and other people manually. I don't know about content, but recent content, I just reposted.

Pain in the a$$! 😝

The reason I mentioned Universeodon is because you won't know how many characters are allowed somewhere until you choose an instance and sign up. For someone as talkative as me, 500 is a real squeeze. 1,000 is great.

Home.Social IS closing down, and much sooner than I thought, on 16 June 2023. Here's a screenshot from the "About" section of this instance.

I'm at Universeodon, which shows no signs of shutting down and maintains a steady membership of approx 11K. It also has a 1,000-character limit on its posts.

Wherever you go, let me know so I can follow you (from Universeodon and Birds.Town) and not lose touch!

#ThankAFictionalCharacter

Actually, the fictional character should be thanking me. I gave him a home ashore, someone to come home to, and a full, realistic life.

But I should thank Captain Barbossa for being such an interesting character to write for, especially since the original #PiratesOfTheCaribbean writers gave him exactly NO background. I thank him because he required me to research, not just everything pirate, but also everything maritime during that period... and far, far, far more. 😊

No credit for the photographer was ever given for this, but I found it posted on Birdfact. It is a very, very pissed-off ostrich! 🤣 🤣 🤣

#Birds #BirdPhotography #Ostrich

A head-on close-up of an ostrich with its beak wide open, showing its yellow palate and pink tongue. It looks to be very pissed off and screeching at the photographer.

The large eyes are light brown, and the bird's long grey head feathers are standing on end. This is not a face you'd want to meet in a dark alley... or anywhere else!

Photograph obtained from Birdfact. No credit given.

@TopKnot

Those are the same people who insisted COVID was a hoax, but insisted on taking up hospital beds and scarce medical services when they contracted it. Then (if they lived), they went right back to their "It's a hoax; mask mandates take away our freedumbs!" BS.

I just love puffins: the way they look, the way they sound, the way they act. Even the way their chicks are called pufflings. 😊

Here are six Atlantic puffins perched on a rock.

Photo is by the US Fish & Wildlife Service. and is public domain.

#Birds #BirdPhotography #AtlanticPuffins

Six Atlantic puffins are standing on a rock overlooking the sea. All are facing to the right. The puffin second to the left is stretching its wings out and back.

While a puffin's body and head are basic black and white, the vertically wide, flat beak is extremely colorful: orange, red, yellow, and grey. At the corner of the beak on both sides is a round yellow fleshy "button." The eyes are ringed in red and the legs and feet are orange.

Fun fact: a puffin chick is called a "puffling."

The photograph was taken by the US Fish & Wildlife Service and is in the public domain.

A small gray-faced sparrow with remarkably bold black-and-white lateral stripes on its crest (said by some to resemble a cycling helmet), perches in a small bush and looks round (indeed, very round) at us.
