What amount of touchscreen-only controls should cars have?

Too many hours went into this (I’m really not experienced with hardware and soldering), but here’s a working prototype of my ESPHome-based PoE DoorBird chime. It listens to UDP packets from the DoorBird intercom, decrypts them, and plays a sound when someone rings.

On startup, it plays a familiar sound once the first UDP packet is received to indicate network connectivity.

Turns out the TAE to RJ11 extension cord I stitched together with WAGO clamps was bad. Receiving calls on the FeTap rotary phone worked fine though, so it didn’t occur to me that the cable could be the problem.

Long story short: The FRITZ!Box 7490 handles pulse dialing just fine (even with firmware 7.60 from 2025), and so does the Grandstream HT802. The converter from China is probably fine as well (I didn’t test it again).

Ich habe den Vertrag dann zwar dennoch abgeschlossen, aber telefonisch, so dass dieser Vertreter hoffentlich keine Provision bekommt.

• Das Angebot der swb sei viel attraktiver, weil man da nur einen 2-Jahres-Vertrag unterschreiben würde und bei OXG 15 Jahre. Das „Detail“, dass man bei OXG lediglich einen Gestattungsvertrag unterschreibt, bei dem keine Kosten entstehen, verschwieg er. Bei der swb unterschreibt man hingegen einen kostenpflichtigen Internetvertrag, der aktiv wird, sobald der Anschluss geschaltet ist.

Und hier noch zwei Falschinformationen, mit denen der swb-Vertreter mich an der Haustür zu einem schnellen Vertragsabschluss drängen wollte:

• #OXG (bei denen ich auch unterschrieben habe) würden hier nicht mehr ausbauen. swb würde stattdessen den Ausbau übernehmen. Kam mir komisch vor und eine Nachfrage bei OXG ergab erwartungsgemäß, dass das nicht stimmt.

I’m glad that the options in Rufus to bypass the #Microsoft account requirement in #Windows11 still work. But I guess it’s just a matter of time until they close this door, too?

Ein paar technische Infos zum Glasfaseranschluss der #SWB in #Bremen:

• ISP ist EWE TEL, die Glasfaser kommt von Glasfaser NordWest.
• Der Anschluss wird über GPON abgewickelt.
• Ein eigenes Modem ist kein Problem (die Modem-ID muss zu Beginn der Vertragslaufzeit dem Support mitgeteilt werden).
• Der geplante Abschluss der Baumaßnahmen für 28203 ist der 01.06.2028.
