Winter Solstice 2023
Ester Dome, Alaska
This winter sunset over Fairbanks, Alaska, displays the stunning colors that paint the sky during the season's extended golden hours. The silhouettes of snow-laden spruce trees stand against a backdrop of vibrant oranges and purples, reflecting the quiet end to another day in the far north.
Happy solstice.

Poems for the Weeping Kind
Trees BY JOYCE KILMER
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

Peltola holds town hall over massive grocery merger
“Alaska already has an incredibly concentrated grocery store market, and potential divestments of stores resulting from the merger would threaten both competition and basic food security in the state.”
- U.S. Rep. Mary Peltola, D-Alaska
“Sooner or later we will just have one big state store.”
