The cut surface of a tree stump has a cluster of bright orange lumps erupting from it. They look glossy like candy and are elongated and rounded.

At the pharmacy drivethru they didn't have my Rx and I said, "but CVS texted me and said it was ready!"

"This is Walgreens."

"But I need my meds or I get lost and confused!" Now I'm just lying my head off trying to cover my own ass. This was not my fault, you see, I have this condition. They weren't buying it.

"Do you have anything for stupidity? I'm having an episode."

"The CVS is across the street."

I Hate Midsummer in the North

I hate midsummer in the north.
There’s no night to speak of,
just day in and day in
with maybe a slight hesitancy
about two o’clock in the morning.

The sun’s at work continually,
zooming in from some part of the sky,
at some angle or another. In time
it penetrates the thickest skull. In time
it levels up the most forbidding brow.

Light pours down. It makes thing clear.
I see there’s only one world
after all, and it’s a hot one
and a bright one. My hayfield
curls up at the corners. My lips, too.

While the days swagger, elbow one another,
I wait, with what sadness I can muster.
This white weather doesn’t suit me,
I think. I get fatter all the time.
For weeks I live off my stored darkness.

When I was an infant my pediatrician gave me fifty years to live. Seventy-five if you quit smoking, he said. I couldn't pay him, he billed my mother. I've never heard the end of it. "I paid your doctor bills for you!" Yeah mom, money was tight for me back then. And Kennedy got assassinated and I was too depressed to work. When I was eight I started a payday loan operation and then I went into politics.

My Lenovo laptop was getting really unstable after about 3 years (Pop!_OS 22.04) so I tried the OS refresh for the first time. It went totally smooth and I only had to reinstall a few apps. All my settings, all my Firefox setup came through intact. I remain happy with #system76 and #popOS #linux #FTW

@ktlcreative I'll watch for blossoms. Someone gave me a cutting last fall and it really took off.
