#Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS Released: A Letter From Our Founder
https://blog.system76.com/post/pop-os-letter-from-our-founder
Decided the newest Pop!_OS isn't working out for me. It might be my laptop being finicky with Linux in general, but also run into a bunch of bugs (some I haven't had on Linux in years, such as audio). Also removing one file manager feature I actually use/on every other distro (a favorites option) felt like a deal-breaker for me.
Thus, I opted to go back to Linux Mint, what I mostly used for quite awhile. Figure I can just customize it to look more Mac-like (ie put a dock back).
Então, 2026 terá novidades no meu canal!

Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS released with COSMIC Desktop Epoch 1
System76 has recently released the most anticipated Pop!_OS version 24.04 that has a long term support policy. This release gives you a desktop environment crafted by System76 themselves, which is the COSMIC Desktop Environment.
However, the days of which the COSMIC Desktop is in the beta testing stage are over, with System76 releasing a blog article that stated that the desktop environment has reached the final stages with the release of the first stable version. This is in coordination with System76 celebrating its twentieth birthday, which started in 2005, when they sold laptops with Ubuntu 5.10 Breezy Badger installed, then creating their own Linux distribution on June 2017, which we know today as Pop!_OS.
You can see the official blog article here:
Read the articleThis version of Pop!_OS incorporates a new experience for the COSMIC desktop environment and introduces official support for ARM64 computers, such as the flagship Thelia Astra workstation. Additionally, the hybrid graphics support has been added to enhance battery life for laptops that provide both the integrated graphics and the discrete graphics card, and easy installation with full disk encryption has been added.
As if they’re not enough, System76 has also implemented the “Refresh Install” feature, which lets you reinstall the core operating system, while keeping your files and your Flatpak applications. Currently, you can only use this feature when either holding the Spacebar on boot or booting to ISO, but you’ll be able to use it within the system settings.
To make your desktop more intuitive (especially your programming productivity), window tiling has become more intuitive with the usage of the mouse or the keyboard. A simple toggle in the panel will trigger tiling, which you can then control using keyboard shortcuts. You can place individual tiles per display and per workspace; for example, a display for mail, a display for writing code, and a display for building and testing your program.
Workspaces have become much more powerful, with horizontal or vertical workspaces, individual workspaces per display, and pinned workspaces. Multiple display users can also enjoy smoother experience, especially when mixing and matching both the standard displays and the high-DPI displays. Now, display settings have become more permanent, ensuring that you don’t have to configure your display once you connect it. Additionally, you won’t lose a single window when you disconnect one of your displays, because they’ll move to a remaining display.
Of course, there are many more improvements made to the Linux distribution itself, so why not try it out? Download Pop!_OS 24.04 today by clicking on the below link:

Nice review @thelinuxEXP 👍🏻
Been waiting for the new version of #PopOS with #Cosmic for what seems like ages. Was very tempted by the beta, but now it's fully released I'm gonna be installing it.
Always loved what the team at System76 put out with Pop.

Big news for people who like computational options in a world of diminishing options:

Also a few cosmetic and functionality changes from teh switch to COSMIC:
- alt-tab lists a vertical list of apps vs a horizontal list.
- Also, no "star"/"favorites" option built-in for labeling or highlighting favorite files/folders? Which is a pretty big missing option for me. (I used those for temporarily gathering those "1976 DC Calendar" post images each day.)
It’s #popos Cosmic update day, laptop is getting a refresh
✨ ¡System76 marca un hito en Linux! 🚀
:linux:
