Your body can build up tolerance to rising sea levels, hazardous air quality, and dying ecosystems. Here's how.

Stupid headline stating "Your body can build up tolerance to heat. Here's how."

The actual code used to embed another X window (once you have the window ID) inside an XEmbeddedView is relatively simple -- basically a wrapper around the same function a window manager uses to reparent windows.

Essentially, the XEmbeddedView makes the X11 window that draws it the parent to the embedded X11 window. So all you need is the X11 id of the window in question.

An alternative approach if one were using something like CEF is to use XCreateWindow to directly create a child window of the view, and pass that to cef_browser_host_create_browser().

p.s. If you're into retro computing, highly recommend following the PeerTube channel @reenthused

It publishes lots of in-depth videos about retro computers and retro consoles from all around the world, including obscure ones. You can browse all the videos at diode.zone/a/reenthused/videos

I featured it today over on @FediVideo

The SpectraNet's stack is useful to connect easily to a LAN proxy via http, but maybe that function can be performed without a SpectraNet too, using basic serial networking. That approach has more chances of getting more widely deployed than requiring the more rare SpectraNet.

So, it's not for lack of thinking that a Fedi/Masto/ActivityPub client for the ZX Spectrum still doesn't exist.

My hunch is that a new type of device should be designed specifically for the purpose of consuming modern JSON-based APIs over HTTPS on the

Possibly one based on the Raspberry Pico or one of the affordable ESP32 + WiFi boards.

The SpectraNet device also comes with an external ROM that adds basic networking functionality, and a z88dk kit to write UDP and TCP sockets and http-based programs.

spectrum.alioth.net/doc/index.

But that's not in wide use, not part of the standard ZX Spectrum, and only a few hundred SpectraNets have been made/sold.

And you would still have to figure out what to do about SSL / TLS, and the rest of the ActivityPub higher level stuff.

Daunting.

Alternatively, it would have to be one of the ZX Spectrum Next / TBBlue-compatible newer Spectrums, with 2Mb RAM. Whether that's more "neospectrum" than ZX Spectrum, that's a highly subjective matter.

In theory, it should be possible to build a client for the ZX Spectrum using some assistance from another server in the way that SpectraNet works.

But it would be a very difficult, probably not possible to fit a complete TCP/IP, DNS, and HTTPS stack in 40kb of RAM.

It makes sense to offload low level networking, DNS, authentication, and other non-core services to a proxy, and use the ZX Spectrum basically as a display terminal.

Cyberun (Ultimate, 1986). Pilot a ship that needs to be assembled with parts scattered along a planet's surface and its undersoil caverns. Get add-ons like boosters, solar sails or fuel. Shoot aliens and try to escape from the planet. The usual cool Ultimate graphics, sounds and smooth movement in vert/horiz scroll. We can find some similarities to Lunar Jetman (like its high difficulty!). Maybe the best Ultimate game under the US Gold label.

Want to help Internet Archive's Digital Library of Amateur Radio & Communications? Are you in or around #Oakland, California? Are you available WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 30?

In 2015 #InternetArchive acquired a *massive* collection of manuals, rescued from the closing Manuals Plus in Maryland. The manuals were packed up and sent to San Francisco, awaiting for a day some or all of it would be digitized. That day has come.

We need help sorting the manuals, looking for the radio-related stuff.
