Das Bild zeigt eine ruhige Waldszene während des Sonnenuntergangs. Im Vordergrund stehen viele schlanke, blattlose Bäume, deren dunkle Äste sich wie ein feines Netz vor dem Himmel und dem Wasser im Hintergrund abzeichnen. Zwischen den Baumstämmen fällt der Blick auf einen See.

Die tief stehende Sonne scheint durch die Äste der Bäume und erzeugt einen sternförmigen Lichtstrahl. Das warme, goldene Licht spiegelt sich sanft auf der Wasseroberfläche des Sees. Das Wasser wirkt ruhig und leicht schimmernd.

Die Umgebung ist leicht hügelig und dicht bewaldet. Da die Bäume keine Blätter tragen, ist vermutlich späte Herbst- oder Winterzeit. Das warme Abendlicht kontrastiert mit den dunklen Baumstämmen und schafft eine ruhige, fast meditative Atmosphäre im Wald.

Um diese Aussicht auf Ulm zu genießen und den Wasserspeier so nah zu sehen, bedarf es einiger Anstrengung: Die 520 Stufen im Turm hochzuklettern ist nicht ohne!

Im Vordergrund sieht man den am Turm befestigten Wasserspeier in Form eines in Stein gehauenen Gnoms, der sich mit den Füßen abstößt und waagrecht über dem Abgrund zu schweben scheint. Weit unten erkennt man Dächer und Häuser der Stadt unter einem wolkenverhangenen Himmel.
