You've probably heard that "we are stardust," but this graphic breaks it down further & tells you what kind of stars your dust came from--and which elements didn't come from stars at all.

svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/13873/

This periodic table depicts the primary source on Earth for each element: from the Big Bang, massive stars, white-dwarf supernovae, merging neutron stars, low-mass stars, or other processes. In cases where two sources contribute fairly equally, both appear.

We report on the day of the winter solstice: the whole event almost passed us by, which is a common issue on the shortest day of the year. It was a good thing, then, that we were able to witness a brief, faint rainbow. A little something to remember this solstice by.

Digital painting of a pale blue sky, filled with all manners of grey clouds, with a thin rainbow splitting the frame in half. The sky is lighter inside of the arc, and darker outside of it.

Inside of you, there are two wolves, a horse, a cow, a pig, a goat, a dog, a cat, a bird, a spider and a fly. But I don't know why you swallowed the fly. Perhaps you'll die.

Locked up at my local bike rack. No idea!
#Brighton #BikeTooter

Picture shows a red racing bike bent around a Sheffield bike rack. It looks odd, and a second glance shows that the crossbar is improbably long and the knot that the whole frame is tied in is an impossibility for a bike, making it more of a surreal sculpture

Fell being a little artsy as the sun goes down.

Photo of a small, fluffy, grey and white kitty cat sitting in a beam of bright winter sunlight in a ring of LEGO train track on a short brown cabinet (her, ahem, powder room). The beam of light falls across both Fell and a large, alabaster-esque sculpture of Andromeda chained to a rock in a sort of Romantic Greek style, a collection of fantasy books behind them and child's painting of a snowman on a purple-washed canvas leaning against the wall behind them. There is something bothering very silly and very compelling in the way the light falls across the scene and the shadows gather around them.

The Solstice comes, and with it the opportunity to kill the old world and bathe in its blood, then feed its entrails to the newborn Sun. Hark! A time of renewal is at hand! Scream at the darkness, for it is failing. It ebbs. It cannot hold. Burn the past to fuel the fires of the future! Make light in the shadow! Make a glorious noise that fills up the sky, for today we are still alive!

Love this ecclesiastical grotesque which appears to be pulling itself through the wall of Shawlands Cross Church on the Southside of Glasgow.

I was in Tesco and there were posters up, printed by Tesco, expressly asking people to buy toys in the shop and donate them there for kids in need at Christmas.

I just thought, “We could cut out the middleman here and you could just do that, Tesco. You get the toys cheaper anyway. Because this just feels like you’re profiting from children’s poverty.”

#Woodensday! Only few pieces of furniture from early medieval times have been preserved. Due to the water-logged condition of the area, many wooden objects such as this terrific chair made from maple and ash wood survived in a burial at Trossingen.
Dating 580 AD.
