NZSIP Offers Local Alternative following Hamshack Hotline Sunset
[Oceania, 23 Jul 25] β In light of the recent announcement regarding the sunsetting of the Hamshack Hotline VoIP service next month, the Australian and New Zealand amateur radio community has a local alternative from Digital Voice New Zealand - NZSIP. This innovative service aims to fill the void left by Hamshack Hotline, providing a robust and locally supported Voice-over-IP (VoIP) solution for amateur radio operators.
One of the standout features of NZSIP is its seamless interconnectivity. The platform allows direct dialling between other ham VoIP services Amateur Wire, and Hams Over IP providing access to a global network or VoIP services, bridges to a variety of traditional radio links, allstar nodes and conference services along with a few games too.
"Rather than centralising the services like Hamshack Hotline did - our approach is to interoperate with others", said Jared/VK2WAY, βthe way telephone exchanges were designed to and have traditionally doneβ, they added.
Founded in July 2023, NZSIP has recently expanded its capabilities and established a second exchange, now operating in both Auckland and Sydney, ensuring low-latency and reliable connections for operators across the region and now welcoming international subscribers. This localised infrastructure is backed by a dedicated support team, based right here in Australia and New Zealand, ready to assist users with setup, troubleshooting, and any queries.
"NZSIP is uniquely placed to offer a replacement service with local infrastructure, dedicated support, and innovative interconnections that truly foster communication within our amateur radio community." NZSIP and Digital Voice New Zealand founder, Phil/ZL2RO said.
Amateur radio operators are encouraged to explore NZSIP as a viable and reliable replacement for Hamshack Hotline. Further details on how to register and connect to the NZSIP network see our website at dvnz.nz/nzsip
