INDIC orthography notes sections on vowels, consonants, encoding choices, and shaping have been largely rewritten for Hindi, Malayalam, Gujarati, Kashmiri (deva), Tamil, Bengali, Odia, Punjabi, Telugu, and Sinhala.

Most term lists for these orthographies have also seen a significant increase in the number of terms and transcriptions.
🆕 pandoc release 3.6.3! This is a bugfix release, but it comes with minor behavior changes:
• The way wikilinks are represented internally changed (marked via a "wikilinks" class instead of a title attribute).
• Babel support in the LaTeX writer changed in a way that should better support most European languages. Users of custom LaTeX templates may need to revise those.

@saxnot There are several reasons. One of them is #xetex lacks a true #bidi model. But more importantly, #luatex provides tools for #PDF not available in #pdftex or #xetex. @F2erron I previously used #emacs, but for some reason in my system a #multilingual document with several scripts (e.g., #Arabic, #Hebrew, #Devanagari, #CJK and #Tibetan) became deadly sluggish. As the maintainer of #babel, I found myself unable to work. I currently use #Notepad++, based on #Scintilla and programmable with #Lua, which I prefer to #Lisp. Add #TeXLive and #Git.

Now that #luatex is the recommended engine for LaTeX, you can find in the #babel site minimal localized documents for about 300 languages and 45 scripts. There are also basic guides on how to migrate from #pdftex and #xetex.
I’m in the process of revising the babel manual. In version 24.11 many outdated comments have been revised or directly deleted, sections restructured, and certain explanations expanded. Additionally, a greater number of examples have been included. Suggestions and requests are welcome.

Es un orgullo haber sido nombrado socio de honor de la Real Sociedad Matemática Española por mis aportaciones a la ortotipografía matemática, tales como mi participación en el mundo de LaTeX.
