If you see something nasty or problematic on here, report it. Reporting is how admins find out about problems, so it's important that you speak up if you see something is wrong or if someone is being bullied.
To report something, click on a post or profile, then ⋯ and then "Report". There's a complete guide to reporting problematic posts and accounts here:

The guide also answers questions about reporting. Let me know if I've missed something 🙂
After the t-strings open space today, a lot of people wondered how they could get in touch/stay up to date.
We just stood up a (very preliminary) website with links to resources and contact information. It'll expand greatly between now and when 3.14 launches.
🛑 Due to security policy violations and a packaging bypass, #openSUSE is removing the #Deepin #Desktop from Tumbleweed and Leap 16.0. Read the full story: https://linuxiac.com/opensuse-removes-deepin-desktop-over-security-policy-violations/
if you can, support OSUOSL. they are having a funding crisis and are a key provider in the free software space: https://osuosl.org/blog/osl-future/
Looking at the prospective buyers who are lining up for Chrome, I'm not optimistic that forced divesture is going to have positive outcomes. This is going to be bad unless it ends up in the hands of a foundation with an open governance model and funding from a consortium of stakeholders. At least Elon hasn't started bidding yet. Or, god help us, Larry Ellison.

PEP 750 introduced template strings (t-strings) as a generalization of f-strings, providing a way to safely handle string interpolation in various contexts. This PEP proposes extending the subprocess and shlex modules to natively support t-strings, enabling safer and more ergonomic shell command execution with interpolated values, as well as serving as a reference implementation for the t-string feature to improve API ergonomics.
The latest edition of the #Ansible Bullhorn is out, with an important introduction to changes coming in ansible-core that can impact both users and collection/content creators! Please read it and test your Ansible content to ensure it is compatible with these changes.

Zstandard is a widely adopted, mature, and highly efficient compression standard. This PEP proposes adding a new module to the Python standard library containing a Python wrapper around Meta’s zstd library, the default implementation. Additionally, to avoid name collisions with packages on PyPI and to present a unified interface to Python users, compression modules in the standard library will be moved under a compression.* namespace package.

Straw poll: do you pronounce `venv` as one syllable or two?
This week #Plasma has received quite a lot of fixes,
like you can now remove the titlebar and frame from a window directly from the Task Manager, the digital clock gets a nicer-looking font picker dialog, and we have simplified the info shown on Display Configuration, among many other improvements and changes.

For anyone who hasn't noticed, Apple and Google have removed International Women's Day, which is every year on March 8, from your calendar.
EDIT: I see Apple says it was never included (I'm sure I saw it there last year as I was scheduling meetings, but okay). Which begs the question why the hell not. Because St. Patrick's day, which is not a holiday here, is on my Apple calendar. Priorities?
Anyway. Back to the original post:
Remember there is no act of resistance that's too small. Sign a petition. Contact your representatives. Donate a few bucks to a community kitchen or food bank. Volunteer. It all counts.
Is there an ICS I can download to add back all the holidays Google removed from my Android calendar?

Oh, wow.
https://matrix.org/blog/2025/02/crossroads/
"So unless the Foundation manages to raise $100,000 of funding by the end of March 2025 [...] we will have to shut down all the remaining bridges hosted by the Matrix.org Foundation. This includes bridges to Slack, XMPP, OFTC (IRC), and Snoonet (IRC). We will also mark the software behind those bridges as archived, as we don't have the resources to accept new contributions."
