Apparently this requires restating:
We should not want a European Palantir.
We should not want an open-source Palantir.
We should not want a non-commercial Palantir.

If it is supposed to do what Palantir does, we should not want it.

And I don't care to what extent Palantir's products are shaped by political or profit motives. We know enough to reject its logic altogether.

“We need to fundamentally challenge what this industry & these technologies have been built on over the past several decades.”

At the event "Sustainable AI: Narratives and Impacts," @parismarx & @pschuetze explored whether #AI lives up to its promises. We spoke with Marx on Silicon Valley’s vision, AI’s unsustainable foundations & grassroots hope.

🔍 KI ist mehr als nur Technologie!

Ich habe mit “nd” über ein kritisches Verständnis von KI gesprochen. Besonders die Klimakrise verlangt es, dass wir KI als sozio-materielles Phänomen verstehen. Schaut gerne mal rein!

🌍 Can AI really be sustainable?
No! Why?👇

In my new article, I argue that sust AI perpetuates socio-economic exploitation and exclusion & co-opts genuine climate solutions, reinforcing the status quo.

In 'Resisting AI' I wrote that deep learning harms the less powerful in society by applying the speculative logic of the derivative to everyday life. Now AI in turn is driving a bubble in the stock market which, when it bursts, will also cause harm to the rest of us. AI sucks.

“The question is not whether AI application are good or bad for the climate. Instead, we need to see the wider implications within economic, political & social formations. … The result are socio-cultural conditions & an ideology which sustains the status quo”
