Our Senior Curator Dessi Kirilova & Katie Mika (Harvard Libraries) are talking "Securely Managing and Publishing Sensitive Data" at a free Harvard Webinar Wed. Nov. 15, 12pm
libcal.countway.harvard.edu/ev

"[We] will review [using] Harvard Dataverse and Qualitative Data Repository for appropriate data sharing. We will demonstrate how the deposit process works and provide examples of nuanced data sharing possibilities, including of sensitive data, securely shared under varying levels of access control."

We've modernized our authentication: In addition to password/username we now allow social login using google or ORCID. The overall login/logout experience should also be smoother and faster.

(For those interested in the technical details: this is OIDC using Keycloak keycloak.org/ )

McGill University organized a great workshop series on #de-identifying #researchData -- 2 events on quant, 2 events on qual, each with one foundational workshop and one tool-oriented one. I presented the foundational qual one (WS3), but all worth checking out. All slides and recordings (incl. French translation) available mcgill.ca/drs/training #dataSharing #dataLibs

We've just added our blog to @admin some of our blogposts get a fair number of citations, and they now have a DOI (and are additionally archived via Zenodo), improving citability and ensuring longterm access. Plus, our searchable blogroll over there looks great: rogue-scholar.org/blogs/qdr

Just up on @SocArXivBot "A Transparency Checklist for Qualitative Research" by Lori Frohwirth, Tammy Lever, and myself osf.io/preprints/socarxiv/wc35
Inspired by Lori's work championing transparent qualitative research at the Guttmacher Institute, we develop a flexible checklist for qualitative researchers. The checklist itself is on Zenodo: doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4266635 A short 🧵 1/n

Via Nic Weber, this automated transcription tool looks amazing for #qualitativeResearch (and more): github.com/chidiwilliams/buzz a lot of the existing auto tools require uploading the file with all sorts of potential privacy & data protection issues (see e.g. politico.com/news/2022/02/16/m on Otter.ai/Zoom).
This tool runs entirely local, using OpenAI's Whisper technology.

There's much more diversity among political scientists *using* #qualitativeResearch methods than those *developing* qualitative methodology. APSA's section on Qualitative & Multi-Method Research has several initiatives to increase diversity in qualitative methodology. One is the Emerging Methodologist Workshop right before APSA, fully funded, and , open to ECR's at US institutions. Details: dropbox.com/s/mwsxu5izzk0kbrj/

Are you using Zoom or Otter.ai automated transcription but aren't interested in creating subtitles, just want a clean transcript?
I've put together a short #rstats script that takes a .vtt file and turns it into a nicely formatted .txt file. github.com/QualitativeDataRepo
#qualitativeResearch

Screenshot of a .vtt transcript with time codes, numbers, overall quite hard to readSame transcript as the first screenshot, but now nicely formatted with one paragraph per speaker, no more timecodes or other illegible elements

We're so pleased to see @peterfugiel did not only write sharing of interview data from his #NSF funded study on the effect of #fairWorkWeek campaigns into his grant: it's right there in the summary!

Interested in writing QDR into your grant/data management plan? Contact us qdr@syr.edu #qualitativeResearch #qualitativeData

The PI proposes a comparative study of eight jurisdictions where fair workweek campaigns occurred between 2014 and 2021, including cases where legislation was enacted (San Francisco, Seattle, New York City, Oregon, Chicago, and Philadelphia) and where it was rejected (DC and Minneapolis). This study seeks to explain the different outcomes of these campaigns in relation to their institutional context, political coalitions, discursive frames, and mobilizing tactics. It will draw on 80 in-depth interviews (68 newly conducted plus 12 pilot interviews) with policymakers and stakeholders in each jurisdiction. These original data will be supplemented with evidence from legislative proceedings, news reports, social media, and other forms of public discourse related to scheduling standards. (The following sentence is highlighted in yellow.) The PI plans to archive and share these data on the Qualitative Data Repository hosted at Syracuse University.
