Are you curious about the significance of beyond their association with pirates?
In academic , codebooks serve as a valuable tool for organizing and interpreting . If you're struggling to identify patterns in your interviews or surveys, a codebook can be your ally in making sense of the qualitative data. By creating codes to represent recurring themes and structuring them effectively, you can uncover deeper insights.

Do you wonder how to archive #QualitativeData and make it #reusable? Join the DCC Spring Training Days workshop on this topic on 📆 23/5. At the end of this workshop, given by @RicardaBraukmann & Maaike Verburg, you will be able to evaluate and improve the reusability of qualitative data at all stages of the research data life cycle. You will have a rich toolbelt to your disposal when facing the challenges you may encounter when working with qualitative data. More info 👉edu.nl/gjaya

Earlier this week, I learned from a student about this serious shortcoming in NVivo. :-(

I tagged research data over multiple years.

There was an unintended outcome of tagging ALL observations from every Agile sprint—rather than only tagging observations that related to the current sprint's research focus…

As time passed, some of the qualitative data became quantitative as the sample size grew.

Spread the word: #OpenQDA is available as early access. It’s a new software for #coding of #qualitative #data such as #interviews, #protocols and others. OpenQDA is clear and easy to use, you can work together as a team in real time, extend everything via plugins - and it's #opensource and #freesoftware. #OpenScience friends!
How do I judge, if my #qualitativeData is fit for #reuse?

I try to put together a list to write a recommendation paper.

Preparing qualitative data may take up a lot of resources, so this needs to be a balanced decision.

@ingorohlfing @adam42smith Exactly! Thank you so much! This is exactly what I needed: examples of repositories where one can find (and metadata) including coded qualitative data, interview transcripts, etc. Thank you!

Can anyone recommend data repositories similar to the German QualiService (qualiservice.org/) where I can easily find research for scientific re-use/re-analysis?

Can someone please recommend any good open source programs for qualitative data analysis? I am using Nvivo, but would like to find alternatives.

I’ve finally collated my previous week notes and articles in one place, over on @medium

Sadly some were hosted elsewhere and no longer available, or you’d have those too.

Enjoy!

On Thursday, I went to Rotterdam to learn more about #QualitativeData and #FairDataUse! As great interactions are a bit hard to share online, I'll share my main takeaways from the presentations with you 🔽🧵

💡 Data stewards exist and can be very helpful to consult when designing your research, whether it's qualitative or quantitative! 🙏

Our DANS-er @RicardaBraukmann is now giving a workshop with practical tips for making #QualitativeData #reusable at the National Open Science festival. Not there today? No worries! We have a practical #guidebook with a decision tree about this topic. Check it here >>> edu.nl/fpj7v #osf2023nl

Ooh some really interesting stuff coming out of my #DataAnalysis today! I’m breaking down scores for metrics like employment, mental health, emotional health, problem behaviour etc and it’s the men convicted of driving offences that seem not be doing very well. The violent offenders are doing a lot better in prison, maybe they can “look after themselves” in ways people imprisoned for driving offences can’t? Wish we had some #QualitativeData from this sample…#criminology
