As a reminder, the notion that people should be able to maintain "a clean, well-organized household" came from the 19th century Western "upper classes" where the wife was expected to stay home and do this full time - and this was used as a status symbol and status marker to distinguish the affluent from the working classes, where women almost always had to work in (poorly paid) jobs in order to keep the household budget afloat.

Therefore, this notion is not only #Sexism but also #ClassWarfare . Thus, when someone presents this kind of "lifestyle" as something you should aspire to (whether a tv show, an Influencer, or a glossy magazine), you should really contemplate what kind of political agenda they are trying to sell to you.

Now, if you _enjoy_ keeping a household in a good, clean order, more power to you! Everyone needs their passion projects, after all! But it should not be the _expected_ thing - particularly for people who are already overwhelmed by the demands this late-stage Capitalist hellscape places on us!

"If you turned on the television or checked the front pages of most national outlets, you likely saw very little. There has been a disturbing silence in much of the mainstream press about what is unfolding in Chicago."

The Trump Action Tracker is brilliant already, keeping track of the regime's bad acts. The UI could use a few improvement, and I'd urge several more categories (or emphasis of sub-categories), but I'm blown away now. trumpactiontracker.info

The old web was decentralized:

- Newsgroups
- Personal Websites
- Bulletin board
- Email as a service, not a platform
- Internet relay chat (IRC)
- Early blogs

Then corporations arrived with money and lock-in, turning the internet into centralized ad farms (Meta, X, TikTok). Users became consumers, trapped in algorithms, tracking, and enshittification. Revenue more important than people.

The Fediverse is a way back: no ads, no algorithms, no dark patterns. People first. A web worth reclaiming. And open source is the engine of this transformation.

Take back the web. Decentralize again 💪 Bring people to the Fediverse, promote open source and build federated services.

Using CRISPR to regraft millions-of-years-gone genes back into a human liver, recreating an enzyme that can relieve gout and kidney disease.

Just past all the greed and hatred and shortsighted selfishness, just behind the horrors, there is an age of miracles ahead of us, within reach.

Last year, Vision Australia attempted to recruit a CEO without an open process, thus locking out capable blind leaders from Australia and around the world who didn’t work for the organization.
They would have gotten away with it if a group of brave, principled blind leaders weren’t having it, and stood up to make change, despite the personal difficulties this caused.
They banded together, formed an organization called United Blind Leaders, and were relentless until Vision Australia did the right thing and embarked upon an open and inclusive process in which appointing a blind person was something they are actively seeking to do.
They’ve been effective, and now they’re taking their message global and continuing to advocate for change. It is essential that we as blind people lead the organizations that provide us with service. If these organizations don’t believe in blind people, why should the rest of the world?
I encourage you to follow United Blind Leaders on Mastodon for updates on this great movement for change. @Unitedblindleaders. That’s UnitedBlindLeaders at Mastodon.social.

A full moon rises behind a veil of morning clouds, stretched horizontally across the sky in ribbons of roseate hue, cooling to lavender behind the leafless trees that line the horizon. Below, a shallow pond reflects back the colours of sunrise, and taller trees provide a screen for the moon on the left side.

“The potential for extended disruptions to businesses along the Beltline’s most popular stretch of trail played a significant role in the…decision to cancel light rail plans between downtown and Ponce City Market

This is incredibly short-sighted. Popularity of the section should be an argument _for_ transit options, not against.

And don’t start with this “autonomous vehicles” gadgetbahn nonsense.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu responding to Pam Bondi's threats.

This. This is how it's done.

content.boston.gov/sites/defau

I write in response to your letter of August 13, 2025, threatening to prosecute local officials and illegally withhold federal grants and contracts unless the City of Boston agrees to actively participate in mass deportations.
This federal administration's false and continuous attacks on American cities and millions of our residents are unprecedented. You have eliminated health care and food assistance for our families; unlawfully cancelled grants for our schools and roads; slashed funding for our universities, hospitals, and research institutions; and deployed military personnel to occupy our streets. These attacks all come back to a common aim: the Trump Administration seeks to divide, isolate, and intimidate our cities, and make Americans fearful of one another.
The City of Boston is the safest major city in America. Our progress is the result of decades of community policing and partnership between local law enforcement and community leaders, who share a commitment to making Boston a safe and welcoming home for everyone. It is the result of our strong gun laws. And it is the result of our local policies- including the Boston Trust Act, which prohibits local police from engaging with federal immigration enforcement absent a criminal warrant, and which ensures that all Boston residents are able to report crimes and call 911 for help.
The City of Boston follows the law-local, state, and federal. Our City's longstanding and productive partnership with state and federal law enforcement to protect the people of Boston far predates your tenure. The Boston Police Department, the first municipal police department in the United States, works closely with state and federal agencies to address counterterrorism threats, protect our airport and our harbor, combat drug and human trafficking, and hold perpetrators accountable for crimes. Just last week, Boston Police arrested thirteen people as the result of a joint human trafficking investigation with the FBI and Massachusetts State Police. The week before, Boston Police worked alongside the FBI in an investigation that led to an arrest and the recovery of five firearms, including an assault rifle. Boston works every day with partners in the community and in law enforcement to keep our residents safe, and the City maintains full compliance with the law.
On behalf of the people of Boston, and in solidarity with the cities and communities targeted by this federal administration for our refusal to bow down to unconstitutional threats and unlawful coercion, we affirm our support for each other and for our democracy. Boston will never back down from being a beacon of freedom, and a home for everyone.

Sincerely,

Michelle Wu
Mayor of Boston
