My coworker, who is a brewer who wears his gumboots out and about and is racially ambiguous, was stopped by the cops this morning on his walk to work, and I'm guessing he was racially profiled????
I'm currently planting and building a #foodforest garden in the 🇨🇦 #pnw. I like to cook and eat locally grown and foraged food.
I work in my local #craftbeer industry.
I am interested in the places where food, #history, culture, and #gardening intersect.

The enforcement of copyright law is really simple.
If you were a kid who used Napster in the early 2000s to download the latest album by The Offspring or Destiny's Child, because you couldn't afford the CD, then you need to go to court! And potentially face criminal sanctions or punitive damages to the RIAA for each song you download, because you're an evil pirate! You wouldn't steal a car! Creators must be paid!
If you created educational videos on YouTube in the 2010s, and featured a video or audio clip, then even if it's fair use, and even if it's used to make a legitimate point, you're getting demonetised. That's assuming your videos don't disappear or get shadow banned or your account isn't shut entirely. Oh, and good luck finding your way through YouTube's convoluted DMCA process! All creators are equal in deserving pay, but some are more equal than others!
And if you're a corporation with a market capitalisation of US$1.5 trillion (Google/Alphabet) or US$2.3 billion (Microsoft), then you can freely use everyone's intellectual property to train your generative AI bots. Suddenly creators don't deserve to be paid a cent.
Apparently, an individual downloading a single file is like stealing a car. But a trillion-dollar corporation stealing every car is just good business.

Panel 5 - @timparrique 'Everything is already rationed, because a lot of people already don't have access to a lot goods'
'We need to decommodify essential good so that rationing becomes a political rationing and to instead one controlled by purchase power'

The air is thick with a choking, pungent, orange hued haze. The surrounding views disappear into the morass beyond a kilometre. The camera can’t focus on the sun, it is rendered into a perfect circle, salmon coloured and sharply edged by a thin pink ring. The world burns.
This insanely hot weather makes me feel like i am way behind on my gardening!

There are almost 1.5 billion gasoline cars. Replacing them with a billion electric cars is a vast amount of consumption.
We cannot solve the problem of exponentially increasing consumption with a lot more consumption.
Were we honestly interested in not killing our ecosystem, private cars would have to go.
But solutions that do not involve selling people things to consume will never be considered.
@mrsm_here beautiful!
The “Great Acceleration” chart featured in a book I’m reading on #degrowth shows why were witnessing the dysfunction of multiple social and natural systems: they’re in overdrive mode, in service to an obsession with #economicgrowth — perpetually, at all costs. It’s unsustainable for everyone, everything, everywhere. Chart source: Duncan Geere, adapted from Steffen, W. et al. 2015. The #Anthropocene Review, 2(1), 81–89. DOI
@adr that is not a real person???
Tayberry (Rubus fruticosus x idaeus) in flower. Cross between a Blackberry & Raspberry, it’s beautifully thornless, with large, plump, tart berries. Grows vigorously too, a no-brainer for a the larger forest garden.

The fact that this keeps happening in the background of a historic housing crisis is a great distillation of what ails this country. The problem is the commodification of shelter. The problem is capitalism.

Belogradtchik Fortress, Bulgaria. First fortified by the Romans and refortified by the Bulgarians in the 14th century, it was the last European fortress to be taken by the Ottomans. Most unusually, it contains a rocky volcanic crag where the main fortress is built, and a set of megaliths and standing stones inside its structure

I had one too many glasses of wine and wasn't articulate in saying that I am 100% a socialist!
@KolokokoBird sorry to hear about the bad work environment! I wish you happy nature time and growing!
I just wish it was sustainable to putter around my yard and neighborhood all week long planting trees and cooking great meals and making great drinks. This is a failing of both socialism and capitalism, but mostly capitalism, imo 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
