"A cyclist is a disaster for the country's economy: he does not buy cars and does not borrow money to buy. He does not pay for insurance policies. He does not buy fuel, does not pay for the necessary maintenance and repairs. He does not use paid parking. He does not cause serious accidents. He does not require multi-lane highways. He does not get fat.
Healthy people are neither needed nor useful for the economy. They don't buy medicine. They do not go to hospitals or doctors. Nothing is added to the country's GDP (gross domestic product).
On the contrary, every new McDonald's restaurant creates at least 30 jobs: 10 cardiologists, 10 dentists, 10 dietary experts and nutritionists, and obviously, people who work at the restaurant itself."
Choose carefully: cyclist or McDonald's? It is worth considering.
P.S. Walking is even worse. Pedestrians don't even buy bicycles.
P.P.S. If you have read this far and still don't get it, this post is SATIRE. Reread it with this in mind.

Forced Consent & Consent Bypass

16 June 2025
Meta announced today that it also wants to introduce ads on WhatsApp, which will be based on personal data from Facebook and Instagram. This further integrates WhatsApp into other Meta services - an originally independent app, which initially was available for just $1 per year without ads or data usage. This also means that Meta is consolidating its social networking monopoly. EU law was actually supposed to prevent this."

@Erik given the percentage of all EU money going to meat/dairy production I'm surprised they even had anything not made of it. They must have been really ashamed they made you pay for it!

Anybody knows a mastodon client that does NOT have infinite scroll? I feel this is a big mistake to take in since all you're doing is by mistake scrolling back to old stuff. Where is my "unread" list? 😄

@lehtimaeki I think people has followed more sources by now which means less activity for those who were early adopters

Yes, the climate crisis is raising your grocery bills

Climate-driven extreme weather and disasters are now more frequently responsible for production shortages, supply chain disruptions, and labor issues that lead to higher costs of living

Astute observation by Dr. Wendy Hasson:

“30 infants die and we recall 4.7 mil Rock ‘n Play Sleepers.

2 toddlers die and we recall 3.2 mil Calico Critters toys.

2 infants die and we recall so much formula that the US goes into shortage.

Last year, over 6,000 children were injured by gun violence.

Nothing. Nada.”

I need your help…

NPR is leaving Twitter but they are planning to focus on Instagram

We need to tell them to join the Fediverse

Many of their journalists’ accounts, as well as their main account, haven’t been active on mastodon. Tell them how much we need them here. (In fact, they should have their own instance)

Use the link, tell NPR we are waiting for them here and spread the word far and wide:

Microsoft’s official @dotnet sent its first Mastodon post today.

Pay attention to the domain: dotnet.social.

Which means Microsoft is officially connected with a Mastodon community server.

@dotnet account was registered in November, but it became active today.

Clearly, Microsoft sees the Fediverse as core to marketing to developers. I wonder what other brands they’ll bring to the Fediverse as well.

@lehtimaeki lovely series definitely, the more it doesn't involve pre-existing characters the better!
