Last year I published this essay in the NYT about folding origami cranes during the pandemic. We folded 1 crane each day until my whole family was vaccinated & our community ended all COVID restrictions—465 cranes total ending on June 22, 2021. Things were looking good but then Delta & Omicron hit. I remember thinking how sad it would be if we got up to 1000 cranes (senbazuru).
