As I am growing in #Mastodon and connecting with more like-minded friends & Comrades, I am finding it more encouraging than twitter, with toots, likes, replies.
If you’re outraged about Adobe sending your pictures off their servers (you should be), please know other vendors do this too. That horse has already bolted.
Eg Microsoft Edge automatically sends your key presses in Edge to MS - enabled by default https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/discussions/how-to-disable-writing-assistance-via-group-policy/td-p/3648422
Microsoft Office 365 sends every photo and screenshot you add in Word, PowerPoint etc (including in emails) to Microsoft 365 Intelligent Services without prompt https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/everything-you-need-to-know-to-write-effective-alt-text-df98f884-ca3d-456c-807b-1a1fa82f5dc2
Being a scientist in Brazil is waking up to an email warning you that the university will now, on January 15th, reduce the cloud storage from UNLIMITED to 20 GB (email and Google Drive in total). I have ~ 600GB of data, some colleagues have 300+ GB of experimental measurements, many unpublished. #scienceinbrazil #brazil
I agree that the fediverse is more than mastodon and we need more diversity. But as it stands, mastodon makes up, by far, the overwhelming majority of the network. That means garg can dictate how the fediverse works right now (and he’s done it before).
Look at the browser space. When Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox are on equal (or near equal) footing, competition forces them to cooperate. But Chrome has the dominant share of that space and so they push specs out that other browsers don’t agree with and they can get away with it. Mastodon is the big Chrome bully of the fediverse space. The fediverse would be in a much better position if other implementations had more installations, but it would be in a slightly better position if mastodon were not run by a BDFL. (I don’t think garg will ever hand the reins over)

As an #onionMaximalist, we object to the use of #http, because over Tor any #exitNode can alter what a client sees.
Both I2P and Tor have ways to ensure #authenicity. The (somewhat too) long addresses themselves do the #authenication.
We encourage I2P.
Also, in the US, Republicans aren’t the conservative party. They’re conspiracy-laden corrupt reactionaries. Democrats are the traditional conservatives *and* the liberal/progressive party.

I'm going to do a photographic round up of the year, posting a photo from each month. Some will be from adventures I've had this year, others will be more mundane. I'll try to post two pictures a day, one in the morning, and one at some later point.
Starting with January, here's a photo taken in Aberystwyth at sunset, with the conditions being just right to be able to see Ireland. As far as I can work out, these are the very tops of the Blackstairs Mountains on the Carlow / Wexford border.
My 2022 temperature blanket is done.*
365 days
2 rows a day
730 rows**
360 stitches per row
262,800 stitches**
Roughly 20 minutes per row
Approximately 250 hours of knitting
Temperatures from -5ºC - 35ºC
19 colours of yarn
And impossible to photograph all in one go, because it's BIG - roughly 6ft wide and over 6ft in length.
* Though I'm probably going to add a crochet border.
** Not including cast on / off and setup rows.
Eta - Thanks everyone for all the comments, favourites and boosts.
Some friends of mine complained that #mastodon is boring.
My Answer: Yes, it's boring at the beginning. It will not fill your timeline with "You May Like" right after registration, as #tiktok #Twitter #Facebook are doing.
You HAVE TO work hard to find the accounts you like. You need to be responsible for your timeline. It's like standing in front of a newsstand, and you need to think about which newspaper/magazine you're about to buy.
BE RESPONSIBLE IN 2023.
Utqiaġvik, #Alaska 2022 annual average temperature was 15.8F (-9.0C), making this the sixth highest annual average in the past century. Nine of the 10 mildest years have been since 2007. The trend is phenomenal, with a total increase of over 7F (4C) just since 1970. Loss and thinning of nearby sea ice is a big factor in the magnitude of the change. #akwx #Arctic #climatechange @Climatologist49 @ajatnuvuk @ZLabe
We thought that our ability for compassion made us human.
Turns out, it's our ability to select each image containing a fire hydrant.
@Froggo not to be extremely mundane but I have always wanted more fast twitch muscle fibers
