I’d like to celebrate Sara Mitich a little here.*
She was in a regular role in prosthetic makeup as Airiam that was causing her a severe physical reaction. (Which for an actor would interfere with her getting other work.). She took the risk to say she couldn’t continue, and the EPs were gracious enough to offer another regular role.
What else has she been doing?
Well, like most of the Canadians in the bridge crew she’s had a leading role in a romcom produced in our huge romcom television industry. In Sara’s case, it was a 2019 one called “Christmas Wedding Runaway” which is now showing as available on PlutoTV, FreeVee, Tubi and many others.
In 2022, she starred in an Amazon Prime movie sci-fi mystery movie ‘Control’. Encourage fans of Sara to check it out.

*While recognizing that for some fans, the characters are the priority, not so much the actors behind them, one of the things that has drawn me to Discovery is how deeply talented and skilled in their craft are all of the actors.
The Canadians in seasonal guest roles or as regular costars in Discovery are no exceptions, even if less well known to US, UK or other international audiences.
It makes me sad to see that SNW has gone with casting almost entirely from LA. This is despite getting a 40% tax credit from Ontario Creates for the pay of all Ontario resident labour, including actors.
I hope that Starfleet Academy will go with Discovery’s model with casting agents in Toronto as well. While we see Canadian directors, production designers and crew very active in all the shows, it’s unfortunate to see SNW not taking full advantage of Toronto’s incredible diverse complement of talent.
