Just submitted a proposal to the Dayton #Hamvention folks for a talk on teaching a one-day Tech class. I gave a similar talk in 2017, but this time around, I will add additional info on teaching classes to hackers at cybersecurity conferences with help from an #ARDC grant.

“We’re excited to introduce 44Net Connect, a service that makes it easy for hams to begin using 44Net IPv4 addresses through a simple, modern setup. Whether you’re experimenting with digital modes, improving repeater infrastructure, setting up a home lab, or just curious to see what 44Net is all about, this new service lowers the barrier of entry to get you started.”

I just applied for the #GAC #ARDC committee as just one part of my long-standing attempts to bring #accessibility and good governance to the #AmateurRadio service and we shall see what happens. #HamRadio

At this point in the 21st century, #ARDC shouldn't fund anything that doesn't incorporate #accessibility as part of its core design. We keep saying we want #AmateurRadio to remain relevant, so this is our chance to prove it. #HamRadio #disabled #blind

I share in part because I received news of it on a normally quiet #ARDC mailing list

which was then followed up by incoherent old white men whining that trying to encourage other-than-white-old-man in radio was against the spirit of #AmateurRadio and maybe against the regulations and they don't care about gender or race when they're talking with people blah blah

and my brothers this is exactly why we need people who are not like you in the hobby

screen cap from email (unattributed):

Non-Males?
Any gender ?

Why even use that type of speech. I accept radio licensed operators.

Why use non-amateur notification such as those?

I have talked to many I am sure may have been non-males and any gender and NEVER accepted the thought of debating or demeaning or insulting their relationship to my communication.
If fact I believe such actions or activity in our 97 may be considered inappropriate and prohibited or ? Charged to say more. ARDC must know we radio engineers of experimental communications connect and communicate ALL ooooover this world and ardc may cause problems for any forward acceptability as users going outside the talk of radio into the talk personal information or attack.

At the #AustralianPlantPhenomicsNetwork (#APPN), we're just concluding a project (Multiscalar Crop Characterisation Network) we've run with support from the #AustralianResearchDataCommons (#ARDC) to develop or adopt #Python tools and pipelines for simpler construction of geospatial data cubes from disparate sources (GeoTIFF, shapefiles, CSV data with point measurements, etc.). "Simpler" may only be relative, and others understand how to do this better, but I'm pleased with the results.

We're using STAC catalogues to drive an ODC-based engine for constructing xarray datacubes. The main tweaks have been in handling non-raster formats more smoothly.

As APPN goes forward, we expect to generate STAC metadata for pretty much any data objects that derive from observations with coordinates (UAV images, orthomosaics, point clouds, plot observations and measurements, etc.) and want to make it as easy as possible to plug and play with arbitrary sets of these and with relevant environment and climate data from other sources.

Three repositories:

stac-generator - configuration-driven generation of STAC catalogue records - github.com/aus-plant-phenomics

mccn-engine - loading and saving data cubes - github.com/aus-plant-phenomics

mccn-case-studies - six #Jupyter notebooks that do semi-meaningful things with different data samples - github.com/aus-plant-phenomics

All case studies also generate #RO-Crate packages, because we are heavily into adopting it (and #JSON-LD, schema.org, etc.) everywhere to contextualise our data to make it as #FAIR as possible.

28 maps of Australia in 4 rows, representing for 7 consecutive days in April 2025:

- 7 layers of daily mean maximum temperature (raster data from Bureau of Meteorology) mapped using a yellow to blue scale
- 7 maps of daily maximum air temperature (point data from DPIRD weather stations) mapped with yellow to blue cells
- 7 maps of daily mean minimum temperature (raster data from Bureau of Meteorology) mapped using a red scale
- 7 maps of daily minimum air temperature (point data from DPIRD weather stations) mapped with yellow to blue cells
