A joint academic-industry collaboration recently discovered a novel #antibiotic class--tethered macrocyclic peptides (MCPs)--that works against highly-resistant #Acinetobacter strains. The researchers also published the 3D #protein structure of one of these antibiotics in complex with its target, providing the basis for the rational engineering of these compounds to target other human pathogens. A job for #AI, possibly?

Our focus: the intracellular sneaky pathogen #Brucella abortus; and the multi-drug resistant (not so sneaky) #Acinetobacter baumannii.

We want to know how they interact with cells, how they hide inside and what they inject into them to make all this happen.

This is our lab account, an international, inclusive, fun team with #microbiology, #InfectionBiology and #biochemistry expertise

While I'm very happy I made the decision to swap from #Pseudomonas to #Acinetobacter for my #Ecology and #experimentalEvolution study system and #research, trying to set everything up from scratch is such a pain.

Turns out you take a lot for granted when working on P. aeruginosa... So any advice or resources people have for studying #microbiology using A. baumannii would be much appreciated 🦠
