Found on the back of a metal pole supporting a cold water tap in the #ApostleIslands (#Wisconsin).

I had to discover this on my own, wish somebody had told me... 🤷‍♂️

The general instruction you'll see repeated everywhere is hang your hammock with with the straps at a 30° angle. This is generally true but misses a few subtle points. First, you don't really need to think about the angle if you have a ridge line. Pull the ridge line tight and you're there! Second, a gathered-end hammock should be pitched with the foot slightly higher than the head. If you don't do this you will probably slide down to the foot of the hammock while you sleep.

This was one of those mornings that a photographer always hopes and prays for where they are going on a specific photographic journey. I was so excited that I was here at the right time.

I took this in 2017 at Michigan Island Light station, along Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.

Between 1886 and 1940 the Ashland docks were busy loading ore on boats bound for Chicago and Cleveland. Traffic in the South Channel and Chequamegon Bay was heavy. This important navigational aid required a lightkeeper and two assistants to keep the light, foghorns, and radio beacon operating. As shipping ceased so did the need for the station In 1941 the light was automated and the station closed after nearly 100 years of service.

Presently, the light station is the site of seasonal tours conducted by volunteers, featuring a pair of lighthouses—one tall and one short.
