Recent research shows something striking.

The depth of mystical-type experience during psilocybin sessions is one of the strongest predictors of long-term outcomes — across depression, anxiety, addiction, and well-being studies.

This isn’t about belief.
It’s about awe, meaning, and cognitive flexibility.

We explored the neuroscience behind this in our latest article.

A surreal, dreamlike scene with a purple and pink sky. A large crescent-shaped celestial form arches overhead, framing clouds and small moons. Below, a purple car drives along a curved bridge through a desert-like landscape. Large text reads: “The Neurobiology of Awe.” Additional text says: “Why experience quality matters,” noting that across psilocybin studies, the depth of subjective experience strongly predicts long-term healing outcomes. “Psilocybin 101” appears at the top, with a “Swipe” button and The Magic Church branding at the bottom.A coastal shoreline at night rendered in soft purples and blues, blending ocean waves with a star-filled sky. Planets float above the horizon, and small symbolic elements like a lotus and geometric shapes appear near the shore. The title reads: “A Scientific Term, Not a Belief.” Text explains that in clinical research, “mystical experience” refers to measurable features such as awe, deep meaning, unity, and reduced self-focus, studied across belief systems using validated psychological scales. “Psilocybin 101” appears at the top, with The Magic Church branding at the bottom. An arched doorway opens into a sky filled with clouds and soft starlight, creating the impression of a threshold or passage. The background is calm and symmetrical, in muted purples and stone tones. The title reads: “Openness Is a Biological State.” Text explains that psilocybin temporarily increases brain entropy, allowing rigid mental patterns to loosen, and emphasizes that set, setting, and integration determine whether openness becomes wisdom or noise. “Psilocybin 101” and The Magic Church branding appear at the top and bottom.A cosmic night scene viewed from the perspective of a passenger in a car. A person with long hair leans out of the window, looking toward a sky filled with stars and large planets. The title reads: “Intensity Isn’t the Goal.” Text explains that healing is not about chasing peak states, but about how experience is contextualized, supported, and integrated, and that understanding consciousness involves studying how experience feels, not only how the brain behaves. “Psilocybin 101” and The Magic Church branding appear at the bottom.

If you've seen an eclipse, you've likely felt an experience of awe. Remember there are countless other opportunities for moments of awe…if you're open to them.

An image captured by the Chandra X-ray Observatory shows N79, a giant region of star formation in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a small satellite neighbor galaxy to the Milky Way. Chandra sees the hot gas created by young stars, which helps astronomers better understand how stars like our Sun formed billions of years ago. via NASA/ Chandra X-ray Observatory X-rays from Chandra (purple) and infrared data from Webb (blue, grey and gold

A Noiseless Patient Spider
BY WALT WHITMAN
“A noiseless patient spider,
I mark’d where on a little promontory it stood isolated,
Mark’d how to explore the vacant vast surrounding,
It launch’d forth filament, filament, filament, out of itself,
Ever unreeling them, ever tirelessly speeding them.”

The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day.
