Gosh, its 25 years that the #Seattle #Protests , the #BattleofSeattle happened…
The birth of a new wave of a #global #movement called #antiglobalisation
That went on in #Prague 2000 until the meetings had to move to remote places to be guarded by armies from the people they decide for…
It hit me like a rock that it is already a quarter decade. And made me write a short article: https://katika-kuehnreich.com/en/2024/12/01/25-years-ago-lessons-from-the-battle-of-seattle/
@CrimethInc did a post on it
Vor 25 Jahren kam die #WTO in den USA zu einer Tagung zusammen. Die radikalen Proteste, die als #BattleOfSeattle in die linke Geschichte eingingen, waren das Fanal der Antiglobalisierungsbewegung.

The "Battle of Seattle" against the World Trade Organization happened today, 24 years ago.
#WTO #battleofseattle
Today in Labor History November 30, 1999: Thousands of activists, students, union members, environmentalists and others shut down the World Trade Organization (WTO) summit in Seattle. It was the first large-scale demonstration in the United States to protest “globalization” and the beginning of many similar protests. The WTO protest raised awareness of corporate greed while simultaneously promoting the delusion that, with a few reforms, capitalism and democracy would serve the needs of the people.

Call me an old head or idealistic if you want
but I miss the days when people united to prevent injustices instead of just react to them. The mass protests against the war in Afghanistan or an instance that I view as a shining moment for us, the WTO protest (The Battle of Seattle).
Images of those streets for "normal" people are presented in such a way as to evoke feelings of chaos and division. For me, they invoke feelings of hope, unity and a desire to change our patch of dirt for the better. Whatever the cost.
Never let them convince you that the scenes like the one below are anything other than a beautiful expression of a rebel heart and a righteous fist.

November 30, 1999: Tens of thousands of workers, environmentalists and human rights activists blockade de streets of #Seattle to disrupt the meeting of the World Trade Organization (#WTO). Using #directaction tactics, the activists force the conference to end early. 🏴 #25AnarchistMoments by the Institute for #Anarchist Studies (#IAS) 👉 https://anarchiststudies.org/25-moments-for-25-years/ #BattleOfSeattle #Anarchism #Anarchy

Could this be the equivalent of the "Carnival Against Capitalism" that kicked off the so-called "anti-globalization movement" on June 18, 1999, months before the November "#BattleOfSeattle"?
